Hey, my fellow Plastic Addicts. With the announcement of the Strong Guy re-release and the Super-Skrull, I thought it would be fun to go through every BAF that has ever been made since the Toybiz days and see what has been remade into a brand-new figure or re-release as a deluxe/2-pack/box set figure. Unlike the others like, I’m not going to be specific about the costumes. I’m just looking at the character and if they had a new figure. I will also look at other BAF that have not been remade and giving MY OPINION on the likelihood of them getting a re-release. This will only be comic versions because they have the best chances of getting re-released.
It should be noted that BAF seem to have at minimum a five year shelf life before they are re-released or remade. Thus I only going to include character BEFORE and including 2020 as of writing this. (I will update as years and reveals go on). As for the reason I’m only including Comic, it’s because MCU figures really have a timing problem. If a figure get re-released way later, many collectors will have moved on from it into the next movie. Comic don’t have that problem.
This will be broken down into remakes (The character has been remade complete, as in a completely different body), re-releases (figures that are almost straight repaint or re-releases where the body is almost the exact same, minor updates and changes aside) and Have not yet been remade/re-released.
Remakes
- Galactus – The first ever Baf got two remakes. One was part of the Marvel Select line and the second was the Haslab project.
- Sentinels – The Sentinel probably have the most remakes of the lot. The first remake were part of the Marvel Universe line with 2 variants. One of those variants we re-released as an Amazon exclusive. Then there was the Haslab version and later the 97 version (which can be considered a comic version.)
- Apocalypse – Apocalypse got a remake as a BAF again in his own X-men wave. (Note the AOA and Retro card are alternate universes.)
- Giant-Man – The Walmart exclusive Classic Giant form of Hank Pym got two remakes. One was part of a Ant-man Box set for SDCC (his Avengers Academy) costume and the other was a Haslab project in his orignal Giant-man costume. Pym himself has gotten a few regular figures but I’m not including them here.
- Onslaught – Onslaught, originally in his monster form. was the first shorter BAF. It would get a remake by Hasbro as part of a Captain America wave but you had to buy a Kitty Pryde figure to make the Classic version as the Hasbro baf came with a Red Skull head. (Rumored to be coming as a deluxe)
- Mojo – Mojo would recieve a remake as part of a SDCC exclusive that would later be re-released as a mega-deluxe.
- M.O.D.O.K. – Modok would recieves a remake as a MEGA-Deluxe figure.
- Blob – Blob would recieve an update when it was remade for the X-men anniversary as a Mega-Deluxe
- Ronan The Accuser – Ronan, originally in his Annihaltion costume, would recieve a new figure in his Classic costume figure as an Amazon exclusive.
- Red Hulk -This Target exclusive BAF would recieve a deluxe remake as a Target Exclusive.
- Jubilee (Lee) – Since her release, Jubilee has gotten a number of figures as regular releases, one in her classic design as part of the Caliban wave, another in her Training suit design and the 97 versions uses the BAF design.
- Thanos – This Infinity Thanos would see a two other figures. The first was this version re-released as a regular figure and then getting a Infinity Gauntlet version as a Deluxe set.I’m considering it a remake because of the Deluxe version.
- Odin (Borson) – The ODIN version of this BAF would get a much need remake as a Mega-deluxe
- Juggernaut (Marko) – the Baf would get a re-release as part of a 2-pack with Colossus but I’m counting the MVC as a remake.
- Sandman (Baker) – He would get a Retro card release on a smaller more human version.
- Dormammu – Originally release as a SDCC exclusive then a BAF for Strange wave, it would get a new smaller figure as part of the Villains’ wave.
- Lizard (Connors) – Got a remake on a retro card and is said to be getting a deluxe version.
Re-releases
(Please assume when I say re-release, I may mean that they have different heads)
- Ares – The BAF version of Ares was a re-released as a regular figure as part of the Thor: Ragnarok BAF wave.
- Terrax – This got a near straight repaint re-release as part of a Herald of Galactus 2-pack.
- Arnim Zola – the baf got released twice, both times in a two time. The first time was in the Dimension Z colors with Hydra Supreme and the other was in his classic costume as an Amazon exclusive with Baron Zemo.
- Rocket Raccoon – This got released twice. One was a Marvel Unlimited Subscrition membership kit with white stripes instead of red and then again in a GOTG box set.
- Puck – This one got a re-release as part of an Amazon Alpha Flight box set.
- Hit Monkey – Got repainted white suit version as part of a 2-pack with Deadpool.
- Rhino (Sytsevich) – This End of Earth version would later get re-released with new shoulders and head as a deluxe Retro version.
- Space Venom (Thompson) – the SPACE Venom version of Agent Venom got a re-release as part of a 2-pack with Mania.
- Sauron (Lykos) – got a re-release as part of a SDCC exclusive with Shanna and Rogue.
- Monster Venom – Got a re-release with more classic colors as a deluxe.
- Kingpin (Fisk) – got a re-release on a retro card in his more classic outfit.
- Super-Skrull (Kl’rt) – Just got announce for a re-release as a NYCC exclusive.
- Venompool (Gamerverse) – I’m including this here because he has made the jumps to the comic but he recently got a deluxe re-release.
- Strong Guy (Carosella) – just got announced for a deluxe re-release.
Have Yet to be remade
- Annihilus – Extremely High – I have a feeling they were waiting to see if Diamond would release their version. They have the wings for it so it’s only a matter of time.
- Brood Queen – Unlikely – I don’t see them remaking this. I see them making Broods as an army builder set, but I doubt they will remake this figure.
- Fin Fang Foom – High – Dwight and Jesse have indicated that they want to remake this as a much bigger version of the character as part of a Haslab or MTO.
- Holocaust (Age Of Apocalypse) – Possible – Hasbro have been going a few AOA figures so it’s is possible they will remake this. (The new BAF version is a different character to this. This one is the AOA version. The new one is the Prime version.)
- Iron Monger – High – I can see this getting a near straight re-release maybe as a deluxe or 2-pack with Iron Man.
- Mandroids – Possible – I don’t see hasbro re-releasing this version but I do see them remaking it to be more comic accurate though that seems unlikely.
- Green Goblin (Ultimate) – Unlikely – I’m not saying it’s impossible but I doubt they would go through the effort of remaking this.
- Hobgoblin (Urich) – Unlikely – It was a figure of the time so it’s unlikely that they would remake him.
- King Thor (The End of Time) – Unlikely – The King Thor side of this BAF may not get a re-make.
- Absorbing Man (Creel) – It’s coming – Rumor has it he will be part of the next Secret Wars wave.
- Abomination (Blonsky) – It’s Coming – Rumor has it he will be part of the Retro Hulk wave.
- Warlock – High – I can see this being re-release as part of a deluxe set or a two-pack/box set with some New Mutants.
- Titus – Possible – This is barely scraping the possible ranking as I can see them re-release this as a two-pack with Sam Nova.
- Man-Thing (Sallis) – High – This is one of those grey area character. The MCU version that they released can easily be used for this but it is not a comic figures so I’m putting it here.
- SP//dr (Earth-14512) – Extremely High – Honestly, it’s weird that they haven’t re-release it with the Spider-verse movie and her role in Rivals. I could see a 2-pack with Peni.
- Sasquatch (Langkowski) – High – I could see them remaking this in a proper scale as a deluxe or MTO.
- Wendigo – Possible – I can see this being remade into a more classic version as a deluxe.
- Kree Sentries – High – I can see this being release as an Army builder deluxe set.
- Demogoblin – High – I can see his being released as a normal figure or deluxe set.
- Crimson Dynamo (Gavrilov) – Unlikely – while ANOTHER Crimson Dynamo character. is coming eventually, this character seems unlikely .
- Caliban – Possible– I can see this being release as part of a Horsemen box set.
- Sugar Man (Age of Apocalypse) – Unlikely – He is a lesser knonw AOA character that was made for a particular themed wave.
And that is every baf that has been remade, re-release or yet to have been remade. Since I know some may not have read it, I just like to remind you, BAF generally have a 5 year gap before they are remade/re-released, thus is the reason I haven’t included the likes of Ursa Major, Zabu, Black heart etc. They may be added to the list at some point.
