Captain Ahab has nothing on this guy. Introduced in Incredible Hulk #1 (1962) by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, this decorated Air-force pilot and father of Betty Ross was station at the testing facility that was testing the Gamma Bomb that was design by Bruce Banner. He witnessed the Gamma Bomb that turned Banner into the Hulk and while initially unaware that Banner and the Hulk were one and the same, he made it his life’s mission to capture and / or destroy the creature. To that end he would use any method, including teaming up with villains like the Leader and Abomination but would stop if it meant hurting civilians.

When Banner gained control over the Hulk, Ross approved of his marriage to Betty but at the wedding, the Leader force Banner to turn into his savage version. Because he was now his son-in-law, Ross work to try a cure Banner of the Hulk and helped set up the Hulkbuster to capture and cure him. When Talbot, then Betty’s husband, was killed in battle with the Hulk, Ross swore revenge. He was eventually accused of treason. But after switching minds with ZZZAX, his body couldn’t handle the strain of this and he died in his daughter’s arms. He would eventually be revived and made peace with Banner after Betty was poisoned by Abomination.

He would be approached by Doc Samson and the Intelligencia, who convinced him to get revenge against the Hulk. They transformed him into the Red Hulk, whose first appearance saw him killed Abomination in revenge for Betty. He kept his identity a secret for many months but betrayed the Intelligencia and found out they had revived his daughter and made her into the Red She-Hulk. After trying to take over the White House, he was defeated by Hulk. He was sent to Gamma Base, where Steve Rogers helped him gain control and recruit him as one of his secret agents. He would even join the Avengers after he helped them defeat a Infinity Gem powered Hood.

He would remain with the team, had his own mission and event set up his own version of the Thunderbolts, with Agent Venom, Deadpool, Elektra and Punisher. However he was depowered by Doc Green (the Hulk) and was arrested for desertion. Following the collapse of SHIELD after Secret Empire, Ross began working for the government. When Alexander Lukin sent an assassin to kill him, he had a LMD take his place and made people think he was kill. He has since began working behind the scenes, aiding heroes where he can.

Ross is considered one of Hulk most famous villains, even though he could also be considered an uneasy ally. When Red Hulk first appeared and no one knew who he was, he would receive a build a figure Marvel Legends that was a Target Exclusive wave. Because that was near the Dark Days of Marvel Legends, the wave was very shortpacked and hard to find. (Thankfully most of that wave have been replaced in recent years.) He would gain a stand alone Deluxe figure that was again a Target exclusive.

Red Hulk

Recommend Figure:  Hasbro Target Exclusive Marvel Legends Deluxe – Red Hulk

  • Background:
    • For many, many month Red Hulk’s true identity was secret, with many people thinking he may have been Talbot. They trick the world into thinking Ross was a separate person by having an LMD attack Rulk in a Redeemer suit and having Rulk appear to have killed him.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • This is needed for any Hulk collection, either as part of his Rogues gallery or (and I like to place him) part of Hulk’s allies/family. If you are an Avengers fan, then he is need for that as he held membership for quite a while up until the AVX arc. He is also needed for a Thunderbolts collection as he set up his own team.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No BUT a re-release as something beside a Target exclusive (with maybe a Maverick swappable head) for those that couldn’t get him would be great.

Needs

Below you will find a gallery of suits that still need to be made. I have included what I think are the possibilities of them being made. Note that these are my personal opinions and not facts. Please let me know if I have missed anything.
