There are 3 things that Hank Pym will always be known for. Creating Ultron (in the comics, not Iron Man like the movies), beating his wife the Wasp and having so many code names that you need a score sheet to keep track of what he is known as. Created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby, Hank Pym was never actually supposed to be a superheroes. He first appeared in Tales to Astonish #27 (1962) as a one-off story of a scientist who shrunk himself and ended up in an Anthill. However, Stan Lee liked the idea so much that a few months later Hank Pym was back with a new costume and identity.
Hank was soon joined by his future wife, Janet Van Dyne, the Wasp, and the two would become inseparable for years until Hank Pym broke down mentally and struck Janet. Their relationship has been strained since. Hank is one of the founding members of the Avengers as well one of the first to leave. Since then he has been mostly associated with the team, rarely seen outside the team with solo adventures.
Surprisingly enough, there has been a good many figures for him over the years. Thanks to his size changing ability you could use a number of different scale lines to collect him, for example, you could use Marvel Universe’s 3 3/4 scale Yellowjacket for a short version of him with the Marvel Legends Yellowjacket for a normal size.

- Background:
- Hank Pym was the first person to use the code-name Ant-man. He came up with this idea after he was trapped in an anthill, where he had to escape from the ants in that hill. Despite throwing away his formula, he later returned and decided that the Pym Particles could benefit mankind and designed a costume and helmet (which he used to communicate with ants) and became Ant-man. However, despite constantly being named Ant-man in other medias, he has had the identity the least of the 3 main people, the longest being Scott Lang
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- As seen above, there has been a number of versions of this in various sizes. If you are a Hank Pym fan, then you should collect at least one of the recommended figure above, but if you just want a normal size Ant-man, then I recommend trying to get Vintage Wave 2 version.
- Does it need a remake?:
- Just got remade so no.
Giant-man (Third Costume)

Recommend Figure: Toybiz Walmart Exclusive Marvel Legends Giant-man Series Giant-Man BAF
- Background:
- Shortly after helping to found the Avengers, Hank felt inadequate against the other members, with the likes of the God Thor and the brilliant Iron Man. Thus he decided to reverse his Pym Particles and allow himself to become giant size. This identity has actually be one of his longest running names.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- This is a beautiful figure and is a great addition to any collection. However, dues to the fact that it is a bit older and it being an exclusive, this is extremely expensive so proceed with caution when looking for it online.
- Does it need a remake?:
- No. Yes if only for others to get it, but otherwise no, as the figure is stunning.
Goliath (Original Costume)

Recommend Figure: (Normal) Hasbro SDCC Exclusive Marvel Legends Ant-man Box set Goliath, (Giant) Hasbro Walmart Exclusive Marvel Universe Gigantic Battles Goliath (with Iron Man)
- Background:
- Hank had left the Avengers after Wasp was injured in a fight with Count Naferia. Shortly after that, he went to the team for help in finding the Wasp who had disappear (taken by the Collector). He was then given this suit by the Scarlet Witch and given a new code-name, Goliath, which he was happy to use.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- This is an important turning point in Hank Pym life as it was the first time he used the code name Goliath. However, both the figures above are exclusives so it might be expensive to collect.
- Does it need a remake?:
- No. Both figures are perfect as is.
Goliath (Avengers Chairperson)

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Walmart Exclusive Marvel Universe Gigantic Battles Goliath Variant (with Iron Man)
- Background:
- Shortly after Black Panther had joined the Avengers and Cap had left, Hank Pym was made chairperson of the team. To celebrate, he updated his costume which he wore up until he became Yellowjacket.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- An even rarer figure then the original costume on, this is extremely hard to find. And unless you absolutely need all the Hank Pyms, then this can be skipped as it was short-lived.
- Does it need a remake?:
- No. short-lived and unneeded.
Yellowjacket

Recommend Figure: (Small) Toybiz Marvel Legends Series 11 Pack-In (Wonder-man), (Mid) Hasbro Marvel Infinite Series Wave 2 Yellowjacket, (Normal) Hasbro Marvel Legends Blob Wave Yellowjacket
- Background:
- In one of many breakdowns of Hank Pym, after finding out that his mind had created the mind of Ultron and breathing in various gases, Hank developed a new personality. This violent persona believed he had killed Hank Pym. He then kidnapped Wasp, who realized who he was and agreed to marry him. After she was attacked by the Circus of Crime, he reverted to himself. This costume has since become the costume he wear during his dark times, like when he broke down and struck Wasp.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- One of the major version of Hank Pym, I would say to get this if you can.
- Does it need a remake?:
- Yes, as the version that we got was used on one of the older TB sculpts so it would be nice to get an updated version, maybe with a mini version as well.
Giant-man (Avengers Academy)

Recommend Figure: (Normal) Hasbro Marvel Legends Ultron Prime (MCU) Wave Giant-man, (Giant) Hasbro SDCC Marvel Legends Ant-man Box set Giant-man
- Background:
- After Norman Osborn was defeated after the Siege saga, Hank Pym took some of Osborn’s victims under his wing to set up Avengers Academy. Because of what they went through, Hank and the rest of the staff believed they may turn evil so they decided to train them to be the next Avengers. He returned to the name Giant-man and adopted this costume.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- As the most recent figure of Hank Pym to get released then I recommend getting this one (the Ant-man wave one) if you don’t have any of the other version. The SDCC one is nice to have a giant version but it is expensive to get.
- Does it need a remake?:
- No. Both have only been released and are fine as they are.
