The people we used to hate could eventually become our closest friends. Introduced in Amazing Fantasy #15 (1962) by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Flash Thompson was the son of an alcoholic Police officer, who would regularly beat Flash. Flash would take out his anger on Peter Parker, who he viewed as weak, Flash being the Quarterback of the Football team and Peter being part of the science club. It’s ironic then that when Peter Parker became Spider-man, Flash set up his fan club to which he still runs. When both of them enter college, they soon realized that they have alot in common and soon became friend. Flash eventually dropped out of college to join the US Army. He would eventually return from his tour and even became Peter’s best man for his wedding to Mary Jane. Unfortunately, he began suffering from a drinking problem but was helped by Betty Brant who he started a relationship with.

He would return to the army during the Iraq War but he would become involved in an explosion that saw his lower legs being amputated. He would also become a driving force to army veterans charities. After the Venom Symbiote was removed from Mac Gargan, the government approached Flash to become the new Venom, (although he wanted to be called Spider-man). The Symbiote allowed him to walk again and he started working for the government as Agent Venom. He became involved in the Spider-Island arc where he rescued Captain America. Because of this act, Captain America offered him a place in the Secret Avengers, under Hawkeye’s lead. He would also be asked to join up with Red Hulk’s Thunderbolt team. When the Guardian’s needed help from Iron Man, He sent Flash to them as a new member. He would soon arrive at the Symbiote’s home world, where they “fix” the symbiote and he became a Space Knight. Returning to Earth, he was separated from the Symbiote. This cause Flash to try and reunite with it by attacking Eddie Brock, who offered him part of the Symbiote. However, a mixture of chemicals that were splashed on him, cause the Symbiote to become a new Anti-Venom. When Norman Osborn bonded with the Carnage Symbiote and became Red Goblin, Flash helped Spider-man fight him only to be killed by Osborn but not before stopping Spider-man from going berserk, as he had bonded with the Venom symbiote.

Flash Thompson as a character has never been one that people would want as a figure until he was made into Agent Venom, which was his most popular form. Since then he has had a number of figures, some his own version of Venom or other being one that could be used to every Venom.

Agent Venom

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Walgreens Exclusive Marvel Legends Agent Venom

  • Background:
    • After Osborn’s defeat, the government took the Symbiote and modified it to control it better. They then bonded it with Flash Thompson who had lost his legs during a tour of duty, but the symbiote allowed him to walked again. He then began taking on missions for the government. He eventually was invited to join the Secret Avengers after he rescued Cap during the Spider-island arc.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • The first ever exclusive to the now successful Walgreen’s program, this is an absolute most for any collections. Needed for Spider-man, Venom, Avengers, Secret Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy and Thunderbolt’s collection
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.

Space Knight

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Space Venom wave – Space Venom (BAF)

  • Background:
    • While touring the Galaxy with the Guardian’s, Flash arrive on the Symbiote’s home world where it was discovered that the Venom Symbiote was actually insane and was considered a criminal. He allowed his race to fix the Venom Symbiote which eventually lead to this version of Agent Venom as he became a Space Knight.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • This is a nice figure that I would recommend getting for GOTG collection as well as Venom collections. It is the BAF so getting him single might be hard. But the figures in that wave are mostly most haves.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.

Beserker Venom

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Venom Monster Venom Wave Monster Venom BAF

  • Background:
    • Just like Gargan, whenever Flash Thompson would go berserk, he would transform into a bulky monster. This is sometimes similar to Brock’s version or Gargan’s version. He has recently return to this form in a Venom Annual.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • Many people believe Venom should be hulking over Spider-man. This is a figure made for them. The only thing that might have made this obsolete would have been if he was just a Eddy Brock version.  This is a nice addition to any collection and looks like a great figure.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.

Agent Anti-Venom

Recommend Figure:Hasbro Fan Channel Exclusive Marvel Legends 80th Anniversary – Agent Anti-Venom

  • Background:
    • Shortly after Eddy Brock had rebonded with the Venom Symbiote, Flash was suffering from lost of the powers and being a hero as well as worried about the Symbiote itself. He went in search of Brock and the symbiote and eventually track them down to Alchemax. A struggle with Brock caused the symbiote to try and choose between the 2. A part of the symbiote separated from Brock and joined onto flash, who was falling back into a batch of chemicals. These chemicals caused the symbiote to change and become an Anti-venom version of his Agent Venom costume.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • If you have gotten the previous version and don’t want to have 2 version of Flash Thompson, especially since the Venom version is his most famous, then this can be skipped. However, if you want to recreated the Venom Inc. or the Red Goblin story arc, then you will need this version.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.
