Not all members of the New Mutants were even human. Introduced in New Mutants #18 (1984) by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, Warlock comes from a rest of techno-organic aliens. In his race, a child must kill their parents, but Warlock was too kind-hearted and escaped his planet, crashing landing on Earth next to the X-mansion. After initially fighting him, the New Mutants summoned Doug Ramsey to help, who communicated with Warlock. Warlock and Doug, now called Cypher, would join the New Mutants and the pair would become the best of friends.
An adventure within Hel saw Warlock forming armor around Doug. This caused the pair to merge even more, working as a gestalt form to help the team. The team would eventually fight Warlock’s father. After a while, he would join the Fallen Angel before returning to the New Mutants. However, Doug was later killed and after watching Night of the Living Dead, Warlock would try to reanimate him, but the others had to explain to him the concept of death. The team would leave the X-mansion when Magneto tried to force them to join his crusade and would come under the protection of X-factor and joined the Exterminators. He was later capture by Cameron Hodge and had his tech siphon by the villain, killing him.
Eventually, Warlock merged with Doug, referring to themselves as Douglock. They joined Excalibur and would remain on Muir Island after the team broke up. They would later be separated during an encounter with the Red Skull. Warlock eventually left Earth and returned to his homeworld. There he met and raised Tyro. He would encounter Rider Nova and would help him in the war against the Phalanx. After the war, they worked to rid the universe of the Techarch virus. He returned to Earth and would free a revived Doug from Eli Bard’s control, rejoining the New Mutants. Warlock would later help turn Krakoa into a place for mutants and would later help Mystique and Destiny rid Krakoa of Moira.
Warlock is one of the most unique characters in Marvel so many people assumed it would be a long time before we get him in figure form. However, he would receive a figure as a BAF for the X-men’s second based wave.
