I hope you have been a good boys and girls, because otherwise this demon is coming for you. Introduced in The Spectacular Spider-Man #147 (1989) by Howard Mackie and Alex Saviuk, during the Inferno saga, Jason Macendale, who was Hobgoblin at the time, made a deal with the demon lord, N’Astirh, to gain more powers. N’Astirh merge him with demon. Macendale used this to fight Spider-man and other but had to fight with the demon for procession of his body. Eventually the 2 separated and the demon gain physical form and started calling himself Demogoblin.

Demogoblin then began a crusade against what he deemed sinners in order to gain redemption. But he had a rather strict definition of what a sinner is and, with the exception of children, he would target people for the smallest of stuff. This brought him in conflict with not only Spider-man but also Ghost Rider, Venom and the former Hobgoblin. In an effort to purge New York city, Demogoblin joined up with Carnage and his family. He would eventually travel to San Francisco where he tried to bring down a group of Cultists, who were using a magic medallion to summon Goblins to attack the city. The goblin worshiped Demogoblin as their king and he used them for his own agenda. This brought him into conflict with Venom and Morbius. Demogoblin eventually learnt that it was the new mayor that had summoned the Goblins. Demogoblin attacked the mayor and took the medallion, which cause him to grow in size and gain godlike powers.

However, Demogoblin used the powers to order the goblins to drag the mayor to hell. He then went to the Golden Gate Bridge, where he order the goblins to drown themselves, threw the medallion into the bay destroying it and save the city. After receiving thanks from Venom and Morbius, he returned to New York. There, he forgave Macendale but this cause Macendale to attack Demogoblin at a church. During the fight, they knocked over a piece of the building which nearly landed on a child but Demogoblin dived to save it killing himself in the process. He has since returned when he was summoned by Carnage into the body of Shriek, now a woman called Demagoblin and began a relationship with Carnage.
