What happens when you combine the minds of Magneto and Prof X? You get a psychic entity that want to destroy all of humanity. Introduced in X-Man #15 (1996) by Mark Waid and Andy Kubert, This being was created when Xavier, furious at Magneto for painfully extracting all the adamantium from Wolverine, used his power to attack Magneto’s mind. This left Magneto catatonic but a part of his mind would end up in Xavier’s mind. This created a separate personality in Xavier, which would refer to itself as Onslaught. It remained dormant for a while until a young mutant was killed on the garden of Xavier’s mansion.

Onslaught first became known when he attacked  and trounced the Juggernaut before steal plans for a new generation of Sentinel. An encounter with Nate Grey would see Onslaught fully take control of Xavier’s body. As Xavier, he summoned the X-men to turn them into soldier against humanity but when they refused he revealed the truth to the team. He would escape and went to the Fantastic Four to kidnap and absorb the Richards son, Franklin, due to his growing powers. He then went to capture Nate Grey, absorbing him as well. After programming Sentinel to attack New York, the X-men teamed up with the Avengers, F4 and many heroes to defeat Onslaught. During the final confrontation, they manage to rescue Xavier, Nate Grey and Franklin but this transformed Onslaught into a being of psionic energy. Many non-mutant heroes sacrificed their lives by diving into the being causing him to explode. The heroes would be sent to Heroes Reborn universe but returned soon after.

After M-Day, a mass of energy was released in space and fused with a human to become the Collective. After it’s defeated from the New Avengers, the energy would reform into Onslaught and sought out Franklin Richards to kill him. Franklin used his powers to send them both to Counter Earth where he recreated the Heroes Reborn character, who helped him battle Onslaught. After a battle with the Avengers and Young allies, he would later be captured by Franklin and Molecule Man to use to recreate many of the destroyed universes following the Secret War.

For many Onslaught is a hated character, due to the fact that it lead to the commercially panned Heroes Reborn period of Marvel comic. However, many agreed that they like the design of the character. He would receive 2 figures since. One was a BAf for the Bring on the Bad Guy wave from Toybiz. Hasbro’s one was a bit of a weird one.  Hasbro release a Red Onslaught baf for the Captain America: Civil War line. However, due to a company mandate from Disney that forbid them from mixing the MCU with the X-men (yet), they couldn’t make a classic head for Onslaught in that wave, instead being stuff with the Red Skull head. However, when Hasbro relaunched their X-men Legends line, they packed in a classic head with the Shadowcat figure from the Juggernaut wave. (NOTE: Red Onslaught is not the same character. That was Red Skull with the powers of Xavier, not Onslaught.)

Original Design

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Captain America: Civil War Red Onslaught wave AND Marvel Legends X-men Juggernaut wave Shadowkat (head)- Onslaught (BAF)

  • Background:
    • This is the look that many people associate with Onslaught. This might be due to the fact that it was the look that he sported in Marvel VS. Capcom. It has been drawn differently over the years.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • Complete this might be a nuisance (having to get a full wave and an extra figure from another wave), but honestly worth it. You will need it for your X-men Villains display as well as for people to recreate the MVC scenes.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.

Monster form

Recommend Figure: Toybiz Marvel Legends Onslaught series – Onslaught (BAF)

  • Background:
    • As Onslaught grew more powerful, he absorbed Xavier, Nate Grey and Franklin. When they were freed from it, he would take on a more monstrous form. This would be the form he would take when he returned to comics years later.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • When it was announced most people didn’t like that Toybiz made this instead of the one above. Given that it’s a baf and hard to come by nowadays, only get this if you have to have every version of every character.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.

Needs

Below you will find a gallery of suits that still need to be made. I have included what I think are the possibilities of them being made. Note that these are my personal opinions and not fact. Please let me know if I have missed anything.
