Who would have thought the God Of War would make a great father? (I originally wrote this before the PS4 God of War game). The modern version Ares was introduced Thor #129 (1966) by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The Olympian God Of War, Ares is the half-brother to Hercules and his major rival. Initially introduced as a villain, he would go onto to be Herc’s primary villain, fighting him both solo, when Herc was a member of the Avengers or using some groups like The Warhammer.
After a while, he fell in comic limbo. It wasn’t until the Ares mini-series that he was portrayed as an Anti-hero. In this, he had started living on Earth to raise his youngest son, Phobos, and was taking on construction jobs for money. After a battle with the Shinto God Mikaboshi, he was invited by Iron Man and Carol Danver (going by Ms Marvel at the time) to join the Mighty Avengers, which he serve with good effort. After Norman Osborn was made leader of HAMMER, he joined the Dark Avengers, only cause he was getting paid. When he found out that Osborn had tricked him into helping attacking Asgard, Ares, a man of honour and respect, attacked Osborn only to be killed by Sentry. He was later revived as a fighter in the Contest of Champions.
Though he has recently become a fan favorite, Ares has a few figure over the year, mostly about his Mighty Avengers version.

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Thor: Ragnarok Gladiator Hulk Wave Ares
- Background:
- After the Civil War (the first one), Iron man and Ms. Marvel was putting together a new Avengers team, later known as the Mighty Avengers. Thinking they needed a heavy hitter, with the strength of Thor and the ferocity of Wolverine, they approached Ares, a construction worker at the time, and asked him to join. He agreed but only if they paid him a large sum of money. He began wearing this and it is what he became known for in the coming years.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- Before the Thor wave reveal, the only figure he had was a store Exclusive BAF. It was during the dark times of ML and was extremely hard to find, recently costing a minimum of 200 dollars on ebay. However, now we have him coming as a regular figure with a much better paint job and articulation. If you want to complete the Avengers, or you are a Thor or Hercules fan, then this is a most.
- Does it need a remake?:
- No. Just got “remade”
