When the Avengers disbanded, a new team of young heroes rose to take their place. Introduced in Young Avengers #1 (2005) by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung, when a young Nathaniel Richard was visited by his future incarnation, Kng, and learnt of his fate, he became disgust at the revelation. So using the Neurokinetic Armor that was given to him, he travelled back in time to seek the aid of the one team that constantly defeated Kang, the Avengers. Unfortunately the team had just broken up after Scarlet Witch attacked the team, so he snuck into a warehouse holding the Vision destroyed body and connected his armor to the android. He found the Avengers Fail-Safe Program embedded in the android, which could be used to gather a new team of heroes if the Avengers were ever destroy. Using his program and taking on the identity of Iron Lad, he would go onto recruit Patriot, the grandson of Isaiah Bradley, Asgardian, a magic user that was later revealed to be the reincarnation of Scarlet Witch’s son, and Hulkling, a shapeshifter that would later be revealed to be the son of Mar-Vell and his Skrull lover, Annelle. Patterning themselves after their heroes, they took to the streets and began stopping crime, where the newspapers would dub them the Young Avengers.

During one of their first events, they would stop criminals trying to rob a wedding that was attended by Kate Bishop. With her help, they captured the criminals but fled before the police arrive. Kate would begin looking for them, alongside Cassie Lang, who was looking for them to learn about them. Arriving at the Avengers Mansion, with Cap, Iron Man and Jessica Jones there, they would battle Kang only for the timeline to fracture. Knowing he had no choice but to go back into his own timeline, Iron Lad went with Kang, leaving behind his armor, which was taken over by the Vision program. Despite being warned to stop, the team would reform later under Patriot’s leadership, with Asgardian changing his name to Wiccan and Kate, with the blessing of Cap, becoming the new Hawkeye and Cassie Lang becoming Stature. When Hulkling was kidnapped by the Super-Skrull, they went to the Avengers for help with the new Vision. They then search for another hero to help them and broke him out of prison. It was then reveal that he was the twin brother of Wiccan, Speed. This version of the team would remain together until Children’s Crusade, which saw the death of both Vision and Stature.

A second team of Young Avengers were later formed when Wiccan wanted to bring back Hulkling’s adoped mother from the dead. He would unfortunately bring an interdimensional demon known as just Mother who would take on Hulkling’s mother’s form. Else where, Kid Loki was working in the back ground to prevent his from happening and was recruit Ms. America (Chavez) with little success. Prodigy (Allyene) was working in a factory when he learnt that Speed was also working in the factory building part with his speed. Speed would then be taken over by a being that took the form of Patriot causing Prodigy to seek the Speed’s friends. In space, Kate had had a one night stand with Noh-Varr. They eventually all came together and after some dimension hopping worked together with other young heroes to defeat Mother. This team has since disbanded.
