Feeling a need for black ops, Wolverine and Angel continued the team in complete secrecy after Cyclops ordered the disbanding.

They were the Black Op team of the X-men. Introduced in Uncanny X-Men #493 (2007) by Craig Kyle, Chris Yost and Ed Brubaker, when the first mutant was born after M-Day, Cyclops needed a team to track down Cable since he had taken the baby to protect her from the Marauder, Purifiers and more. Thus he assembled a team of the best trackers. Led by Wolverine, this team consisted of X-23, Warpath, Hepzibah, Caliban and Wolfsbane. They became the X-force. After they helped tracked down Cable and Cyclops allowed his son to take the baby to the future to protect her, Cyclops disbanded the X-men.

However, Cyclops knew that there were people who would attack mutants that needed to be stop…. permanently. Working out of Angel’s Aeries, he would send Wolverine to target these groups. Against Wolverine’s wishes, Warpath and X-23 remained on the team. During a mission to take out the Purifiers, they found that the anti-mutant had captured and tortured Wolfsbane, taking her back to the Aeries. There, they were met by Elixir, the team’s home support. Wolfsbane attacked Angel removing his wings. Warren soon found out he could switch between his two forms and as Archangel, joined the team. During a mission to capture Vanisher who had a vile of the Legacy Virus, they ran into Domino, who helped them capture Vanisher. Elixir used his powers to give Vanisher a tumor and forced him to join the team.

When Cable and Hope returned to the present, Cyclops had Cypher join the team to help track down Cable. In order to project his daughter, Cable would join with the team but lost his life trying to save Hope’s life. Following this, Cyclops broke up the X-force team….. only for Wolverine and Archangel to operate separately and in secret from the X-men. Psylocke, Fantomex (and EVA) and Deadpool would join them as they tried to continue their crusade to eliminate people that would cause Mutantkind harm, starting with preventing Apocalypse resurrection. Some time traveling saw Deathlok Prime joining the team, mostly remaining at their base.

After an adventure in the AOA universe and a battle with a new Brotherhood, AOA Nightcrawler’s joined the team. After Wolverine took a bunch of X-men and split up with Cyclops’ team to form Jean Grey’s School, he told the rest of the teaching staff about the X-force. The team would break up soon after. The team would soon form again when Wolverine assigned Psylocke and Storm to track down a drug named TAO that was turning people into a hive mind. They were young by Puck and Cluster, the female part of Fantomex’s mind. They tracked down Spiral believing her to be part of the drug trafficking but found out she wasn’t. Spiral would join the team in order to help them alongside Bishop. After an encounter with Cable’s team of X-force, Storm decided it was time to let Cable run the X-force team and dismantled the Uncanny X-Force.
