He may have sworn revenge against the X-men at one point but he has since become one of there most dependable members. Introduced in New Mutants #16 (June, 1984) by Chris Claremont and Sal Buscema, James Proudstar is the younger brother of John Proudstar, Thunderbird, the first X-men to die on a mission. John blamed the X-men for this and joined up with Emma Frost’s Hellions to get revenge. He first encountered the New Mutants when Emma Frost invited Cypher and kidnapped Kitty Pryde. He would later dress up as his brother and tried to get revenge by killing Xavier. He couldn’t go through with it and Xavier convinced him that his brother died a hero’s death.

He would remain with the Hellions and was part of the friendly rivalry between the 2 teams. However, he would leave the team and return to his Apache home. There he was approached by Cable, who offered him membership into the New Mutant, which he initially refused until he returned home to find his tribe murder by the Hellfire Club. The team would later become the X-force which Warpath was a founding member. Warpath would remain with the X-force for most of it’s initial tenure, under the leadership of Cannonball and Pete Wisdom. He would later become a member of X-Corporation at the Mumbai branch.

After the effects of M-day, Warpath joined the X-men. It was during this time he started using his now signature Vibranium hunting knives. He would later joined Xavier and a team of X-men in going to space to try and track down and stop Vulcan. He would later join the new X-force strike team that was deployed during the Messiah Complex. During there first mission, his friend Caliban sacrificed his life to save Warpath, who in turn buried his friend in his Apache graveyard out of respect. He would later force himself onto Wolverine’s X-force. After the Messiah war, he left the team and went to Utopia alongside most members. During Schism, he took Cyclops side. He was later captured by Weapon X but was soon rescued by OLd Man Logan. He was one of the people who turn the program into a Mutant rescue squad. He would later be seen on Krakoa.

Warpath has been a fan favourite for a while and has had a few figure over the years. He was one of the many figure that were up for a fan poll by Hasbro, to which Deadpool won. Although he wasn’t one of the figures that won, he was selected as the other figure for the 2-pack with Deadpool, in his Uncanny X-force costume with a X-men variant. It would be many years before he got another figure but he eventually got one with the push for the 90’s X-force members as part of the Strong Guy wave.

X-force I

Recommend Figure:  Hasbro Marvel Legends Deadpool Strong Guy wave Warpath

  • Background:
    • Shortly before joining the New Mutants, James had been wearing a version of his brother’s Thunderbird costume. When they became X-Force, he added the shoulders and pouches.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • If you have been building the original X-force from Hasbro (only 2 members left!), then you will need this one. He can also be used for the second team alongside Sunspot but that costume was slightly different. You can also use it for the New Mutants as well but it was very shortly lived. If you missed the previous versions and need a Warpath, then this is the best choice at the moment.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • NO.

X-men

Recommend Figure:  Hasbro Marvel Legends 2-pack Variant set Warpath with Deadpool

  • Background:
    • When Warpath joined Xavier’s team to track down and stop Vulcan in space, he began wearing this costume. This would become his default costume that he would wear when he wasn’t on a X-force mission. It would also be the first time he began using the Vibranium hunting knives which were a gift from Storm and Black Panther.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • Given Hasbro distribution at the time, finding this figure was near impossible for the right price. Only get this if you want to have it for your modern X-men display or are a Warpath fanatic. Otherwise skip.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • Yes, on a better body

Uncanny X-force

Recommend Figure:  Hasbro Marvel Legends 2-pack set Warpath with Deadpool

  • Background:
    • Warpath had been a member of the X-force strike team during the Messiah Complex which saw his friend Caliban die. Feeling guilt over this and knowing that Wolverine was attempting Black Op preempted strikes against the X-men’s enemies under Cyclops orders, he forced himself onto the X-force missions and gain the signature black and grey/white/silver costume.
