When humans aren’t enough, time to call in the monster. Introduced in Marvel Premiere #28 (1975) by Bill Mantlo, Frank Robbins and Steve Gan, the group was originally assembled when a group of individuals began investigating a mysterious being known as the Starseed. The original team consisted of Ghost Rider (Blaze), Werewolf by Night, Morbius the Living Vampire and Man-Thing. After the defeat of Starseed, the constant fighting caused the team to break up.

The team would form again later to protect monsters from the Hunter of Monster Special Force. The team would be joined by the Living Mummy and Manphibian, with Ghost Rider nowhere to be seen. They would later find the body parts of the Punisher, following the vigilante’s death from his battle with Dakan. Morbius would reassemble him into Frankencastle. The team would later be joined by Elsa Bloodstone on Monster Island before moving to the underground monster city, where they would be joined by Satana, Frankenstein’s Monster, Zombie and led by Shiklah, their queen.
