Even if you have good intentions, never make a deal with the devil. It will always turns out worse then when you started. You might even have to serve him for years. That was the case for Johnny Blaze when he was introduced in Marvel Spotlight #5 (1972) by Gary Friedrich, Roy Thomas and Mike Ploog (although Stan Lee forced them to call him Johnny Blaze), Johnny Blaze was the son of a bike stuntman for a traveling circus. After his father died, he was taken in by Crash Simpson who raised him like a son. He eventually became close with Crash’s daughter, Roxanne. When Johnny learnt that Crash was dying of cancer, he made a deal with the devil (later revealed to be Mephisto) to save Crash’s life. Crash’s cancer was gone but he died in a stunt soon after. Mephisto returned to obtain Blaze’s soul but Blaze refuse to give it to him. Instead Mephisto bounded the soul of the demon Zarathos to Blaze. That night Johnny transformed into the Ghost Rider.

Johnny fought as Ghost Rider for years until he eventually was separated from Zarathos where is married Roxanne and had 2 children. When he learnt about Dan Ketch’s Ghost Rider, he left his family to investigate. He soon developed powers to shoot hell fire from shotguns and eventually learnt that Ketch was his little brother that he forgot. Alongside Ketch and Vengeance he joined the Midnight Sons. After that he returned to his family. He eventually was reunited with Zarathos and became Ghost Rider again. He has since traveled the country and even teamed up with other heroes (like the Thunderbolts). He has fought the Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider but was defeated.

The most famous version of Ghost Rider, this version of Ghost Rider has had the most figures out of the 4 main Riders. He had a figure (and a variant) in the Toybiz era of Marvel Legends (Series 7). Hasbro did a version of him in the Rhino wave of Spider-man Legends but that came without a bike so Hasbro decided to redo him again with his bike in the upcoming Riders line.

Recommend Figure: Toybiz Marvel Legends Series 7 Ghost Rider (Variant)

  • Background:
    • Despite having the black leather jacket these days, Ghost Rider earlier appearance was actually more blue then black. This was because the printers at the time couldn’t keep the same shade of black.
  •  Why you need it for your collection?:
    • The only reason I even included this is so that you could get the bike. If you remove the front part it looks like the 70’s version pictured above. The figure itself in MOC is now very expensive and not really worth the effort.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • The Bike yes, the figure maybe as a First Appearance (with a new head) but otherwise no.

The Champions of Los Angeles

Recommend Figure: Toybiz Marvel Legends Series 7 Wave Ghost Rider

  • Background:
    • One of the failing things of the 70’s was to throw random teams together and see was stuck. One of these teams was the Champions (later called the Champions of Los Angeles), which brought leader Black Widow, Hercules, Angel, Iceman and of course Ghost Rider. The series was short lived and has become the butt of joke for even the character within the Marvel Universe.
  •  Why you need it for your collection?:
    • Just like the one above, the main reason I included this was for the bike. This represents a signature version for Ghost Rider for years. The figure itself was the only version of Ghost Rider for years until the Rhino wave one but the leather goods was not great as they would fall apart after too much handling.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • The figure got remade but I would like to see the bike redone as well. Champions box set anyone?

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Riders series Wave 1 Ghost Rider

  • Background:
    • For a while Blaze’s Ghost Rider sported a design similar to Dan Ketch’s version. He would eventually return to his own unique design. Either that or artist really doesn’t research much.
  •  Why you need it for your collection?:
    • While the Rhino wave figure was a fantastic figure, it came without a bike, which to a character called Ghost “Rider” was something many people couldn’t forgive. Well Hasbro listened to fans and announced that he would be coming with a new bike in their new Riders line. If you have not gotten any other version, then this is the one I recommend getting.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.

Hell Lord

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Fan Channel Exclusive Marvel Legends Ghost Rider Retro – Ghost Rider

  • Background:
    • At some point after Mephisto was dethroned from being the Ruler of Hell, Johnny took up the throne and ruled for many months. He would manipulate Robbie Reyes for many months.
  •  Why do you need it for your collection?
    • If you missed either the Rhino wave version or the Riders deluxe, then you can get this version. If not and/or you don’t collect MIB, then you can skip.
  • Does it need a remake?
    • No.

Below you will find a gallery of suits that still need to be made. I have included what I think are the possibilities of them being made. Note that these are my personal opinions and not fact. Please let me know if I have missed anything.
