When Vision shut down the West Coast Avengers, a few did not like it. Introduced in Force Works #1 (1994) by Dan AbnettAndy Lanning and Tom Tenney, in an effort to streamline the Avengers and not seeing the need for a West Coast team, the Avengers chairman Vision decided to shutdown the team. Iron Man was against it. An argument happened which resulted in Iron Man quiting along with former WCA members, Scarlet Witch, Spider-woman (Carpenter), U.S.Agent and Wonder Man. Together they formed the Force Work, a more proactive team that would take action before a problem arised.

It wasn’t long until they saw their first casualty with Wonder Man being killed in their first mission. They then met Century, who would just them on their mission to avenge Wonder Man. Century and the four remaining founding members would make the core members of the team for many missions before Moonraker mysteriously appeared as a member for long time and Julia’s lover. It later turned out that Space Phantom had alter the timeline so that Moonraker was part of FW since they start in Immortus’ plan to hold back the Avengers. Speaking of Immortus, he had taken the guise of Kang and had brainwashed Iron Man to be his agent. Iron Man forced the villain Cybermancer to work for him and join Force Works as his spy. After the Crossing event, which saw the death of Iron Man, his young version replacing him and Cybermancer being brought back to her own universe, the team disbanded.

A new team would later form under Maria Hills’ leadership with War Machine as her field leader when AI and robotic beings began a revolution against normal humans. U.S.Agent returned with Gauntlet, Mockingbird, Quake and Solo being recruited. However, Gauntlet was heavily injured, and Solo quit in protest. They battle many robotic villains like an army of Deathlok, Ultimo and more. However, after they failed to retrieve files from one of MODOK’s bases, Maria fired them.
