J. Jonah Jameson has always considered Spider-man a menace. So when he decided to take matters into his own hands, he made a huge mistake. Introduced in Amazing Spider-Man #19 (1964) by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Mac Gargan was a private investigator hired by Jameson to shadow Peter Parker in order to find out how Parker got great pictures of Spider-man. Having fail that, Jameson paid Gargan to take part in an experiment by Dr. Stillwell, which saw him be turned into the Scorpion which also saw him trapped in the suit he was made to wearing. Having found out this, Scorpion swore revenge against Jameson and Spider-man. Scorpion would go onto to become one of Spider-man’s greatest foe and he would also go onto fight other hereos like Captain America, Jewel and Ms. Marvel (Danvers). Scorpion soon became a hired villain working for major (and corrupt) companies, like Roxxon Oil, or teaming up with Egghead’s Masters of Evil. He would also get a major upgrade by Justin Hammer, like a lot of Spidey’s villains, and the Thinkerer.
At some point, Norman Osborn helped free Gargan from his suit. In order to repay him, Gargan kidnapped Aunt May after Osborn was captured and sent to prison. This was in order to force Spidey to help Osborn escape. While he was preparing to attack Spidey after he rescued Osborn, the recently separate Venom Symbiote found him and transformed him into Venom. However, Gargan along with the rest of the Sinister 12 were captured by a number of Spider-man’s allies. Under Osborn’s leadership, Gargan (still as Venom) was forced to join the Thunderbolts. During the Civil War, Gargan was sent to hunt down Spider-man after he joined Cap’s side but was defeated by the new Anti-Venom. When Osborn came into power, during the Dark Reign arc, Gargan became his Dark Avengers’ Spider-man. At the fall of Osborn, Gargan was separated from the symbiote. He would later return as Scorpion when he was given a new suit by Alistair Smythe, but was eventually captured. However, he would go onto to work for Alchemax, where he was hire to guard their Spider-Slayer tech, where he fought Spider-man 2099. He would later go onto work for Black Cat where he fought Lee Price. After a brief stint trying to capture Venom’s latest offspring, he was sent to prison.
Scorpion is one of Spider-man most popular villain to receive a number of figure. Toybiz released a figure in their Classic line twice and Hasbro rereleased it later. Hasbro also released a number of Venom version, one that was just a repaint of a Toybiz’s Venom, A new Scorpion tail Venom as well as Spider-man version and a BAF in the Venom wave. He got a classic suit upgrade in the Far From Home Wave.

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Spider-man: Far From Home Molten Man Wave Scorpion
- Background:
- This is Scorpion in his classic costume, the one that the was trapped in for many years. It has been draw with or without the mouth piece over the years.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- Scorpion is one of Spider-man most frequent foes so this is an absolute essential figure for any Spidey waves. Venom, Cap and other characters’ rogue gallery as well as some teams like Masters Of Evils.
- Does it need a remake?:
- No, just got remade.
Marvel Knights Venom

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Spider-man Classic Venom
- Background:
- While Eddy Brock had sold off the symbiote to a gangster for his son, Mac Gargan had been free from the Scorpion suit and was working with Norman Osborn in order to help him escape imprisonment by tricking Spider-man into breaking him out. When Spidey went to do so, Gargan went to get ready in a new Scorpion costume, when they Symbiote track him down and bonded with him.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- This figure is a hard to find figure that unfortunately uses a older Toybiz mold. Unless you can get it cheap, then this can be skipped.
- Does it need a remake?:
- Yes. Maybe on a bigger build.
Thunderbolts Venom

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Spider-man Heroes and Villains wave 4 – Venom
- Background:
- While he was Venom at the time he was a member of the Thunderbolt, Gargan’s years of the Scorpion would sometimes influenced the Symbiote, giving the villain a working tail.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- This was made during the ending of the Dark Days of Marvel Legends, so trying to find this figure alone is near impossible. Would recommend skipping unless you want to complete the Thunderbolts.
- Does it need a remake?:
- Yes. Maybe in slightly bigger build.
Beserker Venom

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Venom Monster Venom Wave Monster Venom BAF
- Background:
- While he was chasing down some unregistered heroes during the Civil War as a member of the Thunderbolts, Gargan would lose control of the Symbiote and bulk up into a monster size beast. To keep him from killing the rest of Osborn’s Thunderbolts, he would be fed people.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- Many people believe Venom should be hulking over Spider-man. This is a figure made for them. This is a nice addition to any collection and looks like a great figure.
- Does it need a remake?:
- No.
Venom

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Fan Channel Exclusive Marvel Legends – Venom
- Background:
- The artwork of Mac Gargan version of the Venom was really inconsistent most of the time, with various artist drawing his unique Venom look differently. Some artist however, seem to forget that Gargan had his own design and instead gave him Eddy Brock’s version instead.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- Well, you could get this for Gargan, but you should have him for Brock. Unless you are a Scorpion fan, then this should only be collected for the Spider-man Rogues Gallery or Venom collections (as Eddy Brock)
- Does it need a remake?:
- No. Maybe in slightly bigger build.
Sinister Spider-man

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Sandman wave – Symbiote Spider-man
- Background:
- When Osborn came into control of the Super human world, he set about creating his own Avengers team. Needing his own Spider-man, Osborn approached Gargan and came him a medicine that allowed him to control the Symbiote better and letting him look like Spider-man’s Black Suit. However he would still prowl the streets and attack people.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- Many people would be using this figure as their Dark Avengers Spider-man. It’s a nice idea however, this version is actually bigger then the regular Spider-man (just look at how they did it in the MU line). You can use it for that but it will be too short and skinny to be accurate.
- Does it need a remake?:
- Yes, in slightly bigger build.
