When the ashes if the Civil War cleared, they stood as the face of the world’s heroes. Introduced in Mighty Avengers #1 (2007) by Brian Michael Bendis and Frank Cho, when Iron Man began assigning a team to one of each of the fifty states, he needed a team to represent not only New York but also the whole of the Initiative program. Approaching Carol Danvers, who was going Ms. Marvel, to help formed the team and lead it as well. Together, they choose a team that could work together but also that the media would get behind. They choose Wasp, Wonder-man, Black Widow, Sentry and, needing a member that was Thor and Wolverine combine, paid Ares to join.

Together they battle many villains, like Ultron, and even some of their former teammates of the New Avengers. Eventually, they were approached by “Spider-woman” when she brought then the body of a Skrull that had taken the form of Elektra. In an effort to find out the truth, she joined the team. However, it later turned out to be Varanke, who infiltrated the both teams to gain access to their systems. This led to the Secret Invasion, which saw this team disband after Norman Osborn shot Varanke and convinced the public he was the best choice to lead the Avengers.
