Imagine if Super-man was batshit crazy and you’ll get this guy. Introduced in Sentry #1 (2000) by Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee, Robert Reynolds was a meth addict that broke into a Weapons Plus lab and stole the Golden Sentry serum. He gained superpowers and tried to force the professors to create more of the serum. After they experimented on him, he took to the streets as Sentry. He actually gained major popularity and developed many friendships with many heroes including the F4, Spider-man, Hulk, X-men etc. He would get married and gain a sidekick in the form of Scout. However, he soon discovered that his powers had unlocked a separate persona in his mind that developed into the being known as the Void. To protect the world from this menace, he teamed up with Reed Richard and Dr. Strange to develop a system that would make the entire world, including Reynolds himself, forget all about the Sentry.
He would eventually be found in the Raft, during Electro massive breakout, where he saved Foggy Nelson from Carnage by taking it into space and ripping it in half. He would escape and be found by the New Avengers in a cave. They helped him remember who he was, and he would join the team. He would remain with the team for a while, helping them track down the escaped criminals. He would eventually join Iron Man’s side in the Civil War and join his Mighty Avengers team. He would later battle Hulk, in the green giant’s World War Hulk. After the Secret Invasion he would be put under the control of Norman Osborn. He would join the Dark Avengers and during their attack on Asgardia, he murdered Ares when the god tried to attack Osborn. He would lose control and turn into the Void, where Thor killed him.
The Apocalypse Twins would later revive him as one of their Horsemen but turned against them. He would leave Earth and search for a place to die. He would eventually confront his Void half where they would eventually merge into one being. After returning to Earth, he would later merge with Silver Surfer for a bit and would help battle the Cancerverse. He would later return to his normal form and would help in the fight against Knull. However, he was killed by the Symbiote God in the same way Sentry killed Carnage. He was guided to the afterlife by Fosters’ Valkyrie.
Sentry has been a fan favorite since his time in the New Avengers. He has received a few figures over the years. He was part of the Toybiz’s Walmart exclusive Giant-man series, where he would get a bearded variant. These two would also have two sets of colors, the mustard and blue colors, and the brighter yellow and blue colors. When Hasbro relaunched the line and had a year of Mini-Baf, he was supposed to be a variant of Hyperion but that was cancelled. This figure would eventually make its way into the All-Father wave alongside a few other previously cancelled figures. He would later recieve another update as part of the Villains theme Walgreen exclusives.
