They are about to wreck some s@$^……….. but they usually get wrecked themselves. Introdcuced in Defenders #17 (1974) by Len Wein and Sal Buscema, Wrecker had just been defeated by Thor and had his enchanted crowbar taken from him. In prison, he was placed in the same prison cell as Dr. Eliot Franklin, Henry Camp and Brian Calusky. The four became friends and when they escaped and Wrecker found his crowbar, he used the enchantment to bestow his friends with enchantments as well. Franklin became Thunderball, Camp became Bulldozer, and Calusky became Piledriver. Together they became the Wrecking Crew and became a menace to the Avengers, Defenders, Fantastic Four and pretty much every team and individual heroes in the Marvel Universe.

Despite being criminals and Thunderball constantly trying to take command of the team, they remained a close nit team, rarely breaking up. They would work for other villains and joined bigger villainous teams like the Masters of Evil and Hood’s Gang. While the four will always be considered the main members of the team, they have been joined or replaced with new members over the years. Piledriver’s son, Ricky, would run away from his grandparents’ place, wanting to join his father as a criminal. He was given an enchanted shovel and became Excavator. He was quickly defeated by the Runaways. Marci Camp, the daughter of Bulldozer, took her father’s place as Bulldozer when he was believed dead. Needing someone to fill in for Thunderbolt for a job for Wilson Fisk, who was mayor of New York at the time, Wrecker brought in Laura Lopez, Demolisher, to fight against Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
