Time to wreck some shit. Introduced in Thor #148 (1968) by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Dirk Garthwaite was a violent criminal who used a crowbar as his signature to commit crimes under the name Wrecker. During one of his crimes, he happened upon Loki who was summoning Karnilla to restore his then removed magic. Wrecker overpowered Loki and wore his helmet. Karnilla mistook him as Loki and granted Dirk the powers she was to give Loki. He would go on a rampage which brought him to the attention of Thor. He managed to beat Thor, who at the time was also depowered, but was defeated by the Destroyer armor.

After battling a repowered Thor, he was sent to prison. While there he made friends with his cellmates, who helped him escape prison. As a reward, Wrecker used his enchanted crowbar to give them powers. Together with Wrecker as the leader, they became the Wrecking Crew. They would begin wreaking havoc across New York but were stopped by the Defenders. They would be defeated but Wrecker escaped when he was used by the Puppet Master against the Fantastic Four. He would later help the rest of the Crew escape and would battle Cap and Iron Fist. They would later be some of the villains summoned by the Beyonder for his Secret War and would join Mephisto’s Legion Accursed.

They would later join Baron Zemo’s Masters of Evil in his plan to invade the Avengers Mansion. Together with Absorbing man, they would beat Hercules into an inch of his life. He alone was later sent off to battle Iron Man during the Acts of Vengeance and, later the crew went to Britian where they battled the Excalibur team. Eventually Thunderball betrayed the Crew and Wrecker would seek revenge against him. After been incarcerated in the Raft and later free during a breakout by Electro, the Crew would join the Hood’s Gang. He would later join a new Frightful Four Before being imprisoned in Pleasant Hill. He worked with the other criminals to break out and get their revenge against the SHIELD operatives.

Out of the Crew, Wrecker is probably the most famous member. As such he has been requested as a Marvel Legends for by fans for years. He would receive a figure as part of the Rocket Racoon MIni-BAF wave. He was supposed to come with his fellow Wrecking Crew member, Bulldozer, but that was cancelled and later released as part of an Ant-man wave.

Classic

Recommend Figure:  Hasbro Marvel Legends Rocket Racoon wave – Marvel’s Wrecking Crew Wrecker

  • Background:
    • Wrecker was wearing a costume long before he became a super-villain. It was mostly made you of a demolition uniform with a purple mask. This would become his signature look which he hasn’t really changed since, artist interpretations aside.
  •  Why you need it for your collection?:
    • While he can be used as a solo villain, you will need to get him for your Wrecking Crew if you have the other four. You will also need him for the Masters, Legion Accursed, Frightful Four, Hood’s Gang, Lethal Legion and Army of Evil. As for which rogue gallerie’s you would need him for, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Spider-man, Fantastic Four and many more. He can be used for many heroes.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • Yes. All the crew were made on a outdate and extremely out of scale figure.
