People, nowadays, give out about Marvel catering to SJWs. But the fact is Marvel has been doing social issues in their comics since the F4 went into space. A ugly monster with the heart of gold (the Thing), a teenager with melodrama (Spider-man) and Blind Catholic lawyer taking to the streets as a hero dress as a devil. Introduced in Daredevil #1 (1964), by Stan Lee and Bill Everest, Matt was a child who grew up in the rough suburb of Hell’s Kitchen. Son of a boxer, he was bullied for spending all his time studying and given the nickname Daredevil by his tormentors. One day, he saved a blind man from being knocked over by a truck which carries radioactive material that splashed on his eyes, causing him to become blind. However, this also enhanced his other senses as well as given him a radar sense. After his father was killed by mobsters for not taking a dive in a fight, Matt took to the streets to bring down the mobsters and clean up Hell’s Kitchen.

While many hero start off it a defect of some kind, DD has to live with his blindness all his life and has become not only one of the greatest hero in Marvel’s history but a brilliant lawyer, demonstrating that a disability is something that can be turned into a strength. He has used his abilities not only to bring down crime in his neighborhood, but also has a member of the Avengers, Defenders and leading the Marvel Knight.

As for toys, DD has never been one for action figures, maybe getting one every 10 waves or so. Not only that but he usually only gets a update of his classic reds with a yellow version usually as a variant or exclusive. MU has had more version of him but these are usually just repaint. However that seems to be changing since the launch of his Netflix series where he has gotten a few figure since.

Have

First Appearance

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Walgreens Exclusive First Appearance Daredevil

  • Background:
    • The first costume he wore in his career is actually a modified version of his father’s boxing uniform. He used this outfit to take down his father’s killer before moving unto his more iconic Red costume.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • Probably DD second most Iconic costume, I would say you should try and track this down for your DD as well as your First Appearance collection.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No the one we got was perfect. The only thing that could make it better is a better billy clubs set.

Classic Red

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Pulse exclusive Marvel Legends Daredevil: Man without Fear box set – Daredevil with Elektra and Bullseye.

  • Background:
    • It wasn’t long until DD changed his costume into the iconic red version, more suited to his namesake. Another costume that has been done differently by different people, this is the costume that has been updated and drawn differently over the years but usually remains the same design.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • If you want a DD figure then this is the one you need. It is his most iconic costume and is truly needed for any collection.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No

Armored

Recommend Figure:  Hasbro Marvel Legends Spider-man Vintage wave 1 – Daredevil

  • Background:
    • When Daredevil battle his Magus’ created doppelganger, Hellspawn, his classic costume was damaged beyond repair. Since he also needed better equipment to battle this demon and protect his client, he created this new armored look. He would wear it through out some of the 90’s until he returned to his classic costume.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • If you were to ask what Daredevil’s main 3 costumes, this would be on the list. It has highly been sought after by collectors and even got a MU figure as well. However, you should only get this if you have to have every Daredevil costume or have him battle the classic version as Bullseye dress in that to fight this version.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.

All-New, All-Different

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends SP//DR Wave Daredevil

  • Background:
    • During the eight months time skip after the Secret War, Daredevil had gotten the Purple Children to use their powers to make people forget that he was Daredevil. He moved back to New York and changed his costume (mostly a reversal of his classic costume). He also took on a disciple in the form of the Blindspot. As the public prosecutor, he began working to allow heroes with secret identities to give evidence in court.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • Many people will only have the classic version in their display as it is the one that many people think of when they think of DD. However, I would say get this is you want a more modern version of him. Also I say get it for that Billy Club effect as it can be used for the other DD figures as well.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No the one we got was perfect.

The Fist’s leader

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Marvel Knight’s Mindless Ones wave – Daredevil

  • Background:
    • After taking down Mayor Kingpin and helping Luke Cage get elected, Daredevil decided it was time to take down the Hand clan once and for all. In order to do this, he had to take over the Fist, a rival ninja clan. One of the clan’s conditions was that he marry Elektra. Wearing this costume which is similar to Elektra’s DD costume.
  • Why do you need it for your collection?
    • If you got the Elektra DD figure, you may want to get this to stand with her and the Fist ninja in this wave. This is also needed for DD wardrobe.
  • Does it need a remake?
    • No.
