Some people are fascinated by the death. Thanos is in love with it. Literally! Introduced in Iron Man #55 (1973) by Jim Starlin and Mike Friedrich, Thanos is the son of the leader of the Eternals that live on Titan, the largest moon of Saturn. However, Thanos was born with a Deviant gene, a type of mutant for the Eternals, which cause him to have purple gradient skin. Because of this, he was avoided by the rest of the Titans. While he was a child, he encountered the cosmic embodiment of Death, who appeared as a young beautiful women to him. Since then, he has worked to earn her love usually by destroying and killing.

He first encountered Earth’s heroes via Iron Man but he became Adam Warlock arch-enemy for many years. However, he came into being a major villain in the Marvel Universe during the Infinity Gauntlet saga. Working together with other villains like Mephisto, he work in gathering the Infinity gems. While most of the heroes at the time tried to stop him, Thanos succeeded in creating the Infinity Gauntlet and used it to kill over half the population of the universe. However this cause Death to scorn him and he restored the universe after. He then worked together with the Infinity Watch, each with an Infinity Stone. He was eventually sent to the Klyn prison and was there when the Annihilation wave attacked.  He decided to join Annihilus and his army but it was only trying to take him down from the inside. He nearly did but was killed by Drax before that. He was eventually revived and returned to his evil ways.

Thanos has always been absent from Marvel Legends for many many years. Diamond Select released a Marvel Select figure but while most might disagree, he is too tall for Legends. It wasn’t really until he was confirmed as the main villain for the entire MCU, that Thanos got few figures, one as the BAF for an Avengers wave and the same one released as a store exclusive.

Have

Classic

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Deluxe Line – Infinity Gauntlet Thanos

  • Background:
    • While Thanos started out with a different costume, this is the costume that he is most recognized for. Like most classic version, it has been drawn differently in for a number of artist, like having a number of gold lines running through the costumes.
  •  Why you need it for your collection?:
    • If you missed the modern version (either the BAF or the Target exclusive) or want a more classic version then I highly recommend getting this one. It will be needed for many collections, including Iron Man, Avengers, Cosmic etc but most importantly to recreate the Infinity Gaunlet saga.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.

Infinity

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Avengers: Age of Ultron Thanos wave Thanos BAF or Walmart Exclusive Marvel Legends Thanos (with Infinity Gauntlet)

  • Background:
    • After the Age of Ultron, a time storm sent ripples across the universe. Thanos used this reason in order to attack Earth. The main team of Avengers were off planet and many other teams weren’t around. He set up barrier over the planet close Earth off from the inside and outside. It took that combine might of most of Marvel Heroes to defeat him.
  •  Why you need it for your collection?:
    • If you want a more modern version of the Mad Titan then this is the one for you. There are 2 version of him, one a baf and the other a single figure but a store exclusive. If you want a more comic book accurate version then you have to go with the BAF. If you don’t care about that and want the Infinity Gauntlet with him (even though he never wore it in this version), then you should go with the Walmart exclusive.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No, it’s perfect as is.
