When the majority of their student body lost their powers following M-Day, Emma Frost did the only thing a sane person would do, pitted them against each other to become the next generation of X-men. Introduced in New X-Men (Vol. 2) #23 (2006) by Craig Kyle, Christopher Yost and Mark Brooks, after Scarlet Witch turned the world back to normal following House of M and depowers the majority of mutants, The X-men decided to disband the training squad program and merged the teams into one specially selected team. To decided who was going to be a member of the team, Emma had all the remaining students battle it out in a battle royal style fight. As the dust settled, the remaining members were Dust, Elixir, Hellion, Mercury, Prodigy, Rockslide and, despite Emma ordering Hellion to eliminate her, X-23, with Surge being the squad leader. As the adventures went on, other members joined like Anole, Pixie, Gentle and Armor.
