“Flame On!!”  The youngest member of the Fantastic Four, Johnny Storm was one of the first teenagers in comic with his own set of powers and not just a younger version of the lead heroes like was the case with Batman and Robin, Aquaman and Aqualad or even Marvel’s Captain America and Bucky. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in Fantastic Four #1 in 1961, he is the younger brother of Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman. When his sister volunteered to help Reed Richard launch his shuttle, he went with them, where he was bombard by cosmic radiation. Crash landing, his body burst into flames and and these flame flew him into the sky. He took on the name Human Torch as a honor to the original WWII Human Torch (Jim Hammond), who at the time was considered dead.

Johnny has had a long career as a member of the F4. He was a rival to Spider-man before they eventually became the best of friends. He has had several romances including the Inhuman Crystal and more recently her sister Medusa. He has also joined other teams like The Uncanny Avengers (making him the last of the F4 to officially join the Avengers) and the Inhumans.

Figure wise, he has had several figures most of them being his flamed version done with a different artist version for some. They have also done some semi-non flamed version usually with flames hanging off of him.

Have

Flame-On!!

Recommend Figure: (Classic) Hasbro Marvel Legends Fantastic Four Retro wave – Human Torch or (Modern) Hasbro Marvel Legends Walgreens Exclusive Human Torch

  • Background:
    • When you search for images of the Human Torch about 90% of them will be with him in his fully flamed form. Many artist have used different artwork to draw this so it may seem like they are different versions but they really are all the same.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • You will obviously need this for your Fantastic Four collection. As for which version, it all depends on whether you want a modern or classic rendition of the characters.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.

Classic

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends 2-Packs wave 2 Human Torch with Invisible Woman

  • Background:
    • This is the classic costume that Sue designed way back in 1961. It has gone through some changes, usually with the size of the collar and where the F4 symbol is, but has mainly remain the same basic design.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • For a flamed down version, this one is a good one. However I think Hasbro will release a new one if the Walgreen one does well so I say wait for that.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • Yes. A simple repaint of the Flame-On version.

Negative Zone

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Pulse Exclusive Marvel Legends Fantastic Four Retro wave –  Human Torch

  • Background:
    • During a extended trip through the Negative Zone, the F4 found that their costume have become negative versions of their classic costume. The Team wore this in the main universe for quite a while before switching their costumes to their 90’s look.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • If you prefer the dark blue and white over the light blue and black, then get this. It is also needed to recreate the 90’s cartoon or if you are a fan of the Human Torch.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.

Fresh Start

Recommend Figure:  Hasbro Marvel Legends Fantastic Four ? Wave Human Torch

  • Background:
    • After Marvel cancelled the book to insure there was no advertising for Fox’s second attempt at the team, they relaunched the book in a story called Fresh Start. Reed and Sue returned from creating new universes, the team got new costumes.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • If you wanted a powered down Johnny that matches the rest of the team, then this is the one to get. It doesn’t match the Walgreen’s version but it does match the rest of this wave’s F4 figures.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.
