She was created because Marvel wanted to break into the music industry. Introduced in X-Men #130 (1980) by Chris Claremont and John Bryne (but was actually created by Tom DeFalco, John Romita, Jr. and Roger Stern), Dazzler was created in collaboration Casablanca Records in order to not only make a comic but also release an album and a movie with Bo Derek. However, just before the comic came out, Casablanca pulled out. However, she proved extremely popular. When she was first introduced, she was a rising pop star, that was using her powers secretly to perform light shows. She was targeted by the Hellfire club but was rescued by the X-men. Cyclops offered her a place in the team but she refused wanting to focus on her career. She then had a long solo career.

When she was eventually outed as a mutant, she couldn’t find places to leave her perform. Needing help to control her powers, she joined the X-men. It was when she was in the team that she met and fell in love with her future husband, Longshot. When he went back to his homeworld, the Mojoverse, she joined him and even became pregnant with his baby, who she believed she had lost but was actually sent to the future to become Shatterstar (it gets extremely confusing). After Longshot was believed killed, she eventually returned to to Earth. After M-Day, she was performing in London when she was attacked by the Evil X-men. She was believed killed but was revived and joined a number of other heroes in order to hunt the evil X-men down. The heroes would eventually become the New Excalibur. She was reunited with Longshot when the Exiles teamed with Excalibur.

Longshot went back to fight in the Mojoverse and Dazzler returned to the X-men. After AVX, when mutant hatred was at an all time high, Maria Hill hired Dazzler as the mutant liaison, in order to gain the support of the X-men. While on a mission to hunt down a MGH drug ring, she was captured and replaced by Mystique. She was sent to Genosha and was used to create a new MGH drug. She was rescued by Magneto and swore revenge against Mystique. After the Secret Wars, she was recruited by Singularity into joining the A-force, where she remained until they broke up. While on that team, she revealed that she was dying from M-pox but was eventually cure after the XVI wars. After helping find a resurrected Jean Grey, she returned to showbiz.

Dazzler was actually one of the most requested character for the X-men. Fans would debate on which one should get made, Disco or Outback. Hasbro released the Disco version in the Warlock wave of X-Legends but some (a small minority) moaned that it wasn’t the Outback version. As if answering this wishes, Hasbro announced Outback Dazzler (with some X-men arcade game parts) in the X-men Vintage wave.

Background:
- When Dazzler was first introduced, it was the height of the Disco movement. This and the Casablanca partnership helped inspire this costume. This would go onto become her stage costume.
Why you need it for your collection?:
- Of all of Dazzler costumes, this is probably the most famous and most requested. It’s a great (and fun) addition to any X-men collection as well as many other superheroes, like Spider-man, F4 and more as she would team up with them during her solo days.

Outback

Background:
- Shortly after being outed as a mutant and just before she joined the X-men, she redesign her costume to have a more superhero appearance. Despite happening before the X-men went to live in Australia, this would be known as her Outback costume due to the fact that she wore it then. It should be noted that the jacket is actually from the X-men arcade game but has since been thought as the same thing.
Why you need it for your collection?:
- When Disco Dazzler was reveal, some people moaned that it wasn’t this version. Again proving that Hasbro’s Marvel team listens to their fans, they announced this version of Dazzler. It is need to the Outback team as well as the Arcade team.
