Where there is an X-men team, there must be a Cyclops to lead them. Introduce in Ultimate X-Men #1 (2000) by Mark Millar and Adam Kubert, this Scott also lost is his parents in a plane crash. He and his brother Alex would be sent to an orphanage but were separated when Scott was place in foster care. However, he killed his foster parents when his powers activated for the first time. He later became estranged from Alex after Alex began dating Scott’s ex-girlfriend. He would later be recruited as Xavier’s first student and leader of his X-men. Together with his crush Jean, he would lead the team in rescuing mutants. However, he would leave the X-men and join the Magneto’s Brotherhood after Jean slept with the newly recruited Wolverine. He would later leave them when Magneto planned to attack Washington with an army of Sentinels. He warned the X-men with the help of Quicksilver.
Returning to the X-men, Jean broke up with Logan, which caused him to attack Scott. As a way to mend fences, Xavier sent them to the Savage Land on a mission, but when Cyclops slipped into a ravine and Wolverine caught him, Logan decided to let him drop instead. He survived by eating bugs and was rescued by a group of the Brotherhood, not realising who he was. Cyclops recovered and helped the X-men defeat Magneto again. After the fight, he blasted Wolverine and kicked him off the team but later would take the high ground and tried to make amends, causing the pair to develop respect for each other. He would later be reunited with his brother, when Alex joined Emma Frost’s Academy of Tomorrow as a rival to the X-men. However, after Beast’s death, Alex left with Emma instead of staying with Xavier. The relationship deteriorated further when Alex and his teammate when to rescue Lorna from being sent to the Triskelion and the X-men were sent to stop them from breaking the law. Alex and Scott argued until Alex hit Scott’s head with a tire iron, which Alex believed Scott let him do. This all turned out to be a ruse as Lorna was innocent and it was a ploy to free Magneto. Scott and Alex worked together to defeat the Brotherhood.
After Xavier was killed saving Cyclops from a grenade from Cable (a future Logan), Scott became the head of the school. However, since he believed Xavier’s dream died with him, he choose to disband the X-men and turn the mansion into a true school for mutants. Bishop and Storm decided to form their own X-men team and Xavier would later return to the school and became headmaster again. He would later joined the splinter X-men as a spy for Xavier and Jean to try and find out where they were getting the “Banshee” drug. However, he also became addict to the drug and gave him control of his powers, as well as new powers. After a fight with Jean’s team, he flew into space into the moon. Jean followed him to convince him to return. Scott initially refuse, not wanting to lose control of his powers again but when the drug wore off, Jean convinced him to return to lead the X-men. During Ultimatum, he lead a team of heroes strike back at Magneto, defeated the terrorist and decapitating Magneto with his powers. However, he was shot to death when he tried to calm an anti-mutant protest.
Possible Figures
- Which has the best chance of being made? – Scott in this universe really had only one costume, the standard black and yellow that the X-men wore. It was drawn different over the years but is similar
- How can it be made? – I suppose before we talk about how this figure could be made, I should talk about how we almost had him. You see back when Hasbro originally had the licence, there was plans to release a 5 inch line beside ML. However, of the first wave, all of them were repaints of some of Toybiz’s mold. One of them was Cyclops which used the original X-men Classic Jim Lee Cyclops in the Ultimate X-men colors. THANKFULLY, they never made it past the planning stage. Never the less, if they were to make this Cyclops, it would be a simple matter of the Vulcan body, with new chest straps and knees. This could easily be slotted into a X-line.
