Don’t mess with (Brother) Voodoo. Introduced in Strange Tales #169 (1973) by Len Wein and Gene Colan, Jericho Drumm choose to leave his home in Haiti and brother to become psychologist while his brother, Daniel, became a Houngan, a practitioner of Voodoo magic. Jericho would return home when he learnt of his brother after being curse by the serpent god, Damballah. Jericho would seek out Papa Jambo and would be mentored in the magic of Voodoo, becoming the Houngan instead. Papa Jambo would summon Daniel’s spirit back from the dead and merged it with Jericho becoming the true Houngan and later Brother Voodoo. Using his powers, he would defeat Damballah.
Jericho returned to America where he set up a base in New Orleans and would battle zombies that were created by AIM. After fighting Black Talon and his cult, he would team up with Spider-man to battle Moondog the Malicious and later Francis Drake to battle Dracula. Daniel’s spirit eventually took control of their body and was sent by Damballah to attack Dr. Strange but Strange managed to free them. When Marie Lavaeu used magic to summon an army of Vampires, Voodoo teamed up with other sorcerers to battle them with an army of Zombies. After many adventures, he became known as the local hero for New Orleans.
Skipping a bit, when Strange used a dark spell and had to give up his role of Sorcerer Supreme, Voodoo was chosen as his successor. However, when Agamotto was kicked out of the Vashanti, Voodoo used the Eye to defeat him, but it cost him his life. He was later resurrected by Doom to stop an inversed Scarlet Witch. He would later join the Avengers Unity Squad and would begin a relationship with Scarlet Witch. He would later travel to Madripoor and would join the Savage Avengers. He has since taken up the headmaster role at Strange Academy.
Brother Voodoo was a bit of an obscure character that would gain a big following after he was chosen as Sorcerer Supreme. Since then, he has become one of the most recurring magic users in Marvel, constantly appearing in Dr. Strange comics. He would receive a figure as part of the Book of the Vashanti box set for SDCC. This was later repainted and released as part of the Dr. Strange Dormammu wave.
