He is the character that started the super-hero genre of cinema. Introduced in Tomb of Dracula #10 (1973) by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, Blade was unique in the comic as he was an original character and not just a descendant of the character’s from Bram Stroker’s Dracula, along with Hannibal King. As it was the era of Blaxploitation of cinema, Blade was introduced as a stereotypical black man of the 70’s. As years went on, he character develop into the more bad ass character we know and love today.
When he was introduce, he was just a hunter trying to kill the serial killer Deacon Frost. It was later revealed that he was half vampire, with his mother being attacked by Deacon Frost while he was still in the womb. This caused him receive vampire enzymes and to gain the strengths of vampire but none of the weaknesses like sunlight. He eventually teamed up with King and Dracula’s descendant Frank Drake to formed the Nightstalkers, which in turn would join with the Spirits of Vengeance and the Darkhold Redeemers to form the Midnight Sons. After that, he went onto solo adventures as well as teaming up with other heroes like Spider-man and Blade.
Blade did have a figure during the Toybiz days but that was Wesley Snipes’ Movie version and not a comic version. Hasbro did show a Blade figure that was supposed to be released but that got held back and eventually cancelled. They then tease him for years in the SDCC diorama but eventually announced that they will be releasing a new Blade. It was eventually released in the Man-Thing wave.

Curse of the Mutants

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Marvel Knights Man-Thing Wave Blade
- Background:
- (May have appear earlier but this is my first appearance of it). Blade has never been one for costumes, mostly sticking to black vest, armored jackets and the likes, similar to Punisher. In one X-men adventure, he teamed up with the X-men who were under attack by vampires led by Xarus, which resulted in Jubilee becoming a vampire and Dracula being resurrected.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- It been a long time coming but we finally have a comic Blade figure. If you are a Avengers fan, X-men fan, Dr. Strange Fan, Spider-man fan………………..I could go on. This is a figure you need in your collection.
- Does it need a remake?:
- No. Just being released
Mighty Avengers’ Ronin

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends 2-packs series 1 Ronin (2-pack with Elektra/Skrull)
- Background:
- After helping protect New York during the Infinity arc as Spider Hero, Blade approached Spectrum for helping in tracking down the Deathwalker, a team of immortals who wanted to destroy the Earth. To hide who he was, because he had previously battle them, he needed to hide his identity so Spectrum suggested that he use the Ronin costume.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- While not required for Blade, if you want to complete the original New Avengers, then you need this. I personally use it for Echo until we get an official figure.
- Does it need a remake?:
- Not for Blade but I really think they need to come back to this figure. Maybe have the figure come with 4 head, masked, Echo, Hawkeye and Blade.
