Not only is he Marvel’s first Hulk, he is also the first pre-Fantastic Four monster to make the jump into the modern Marvel Universe. Introduced in Journey into Mystery #62 (1960) by Jack Kirby, the escape convict crashed landed on Earth and was rescued by Joe Harper, who repaired the cyborg. Xemnu then used his hypnotic powers to enslave a portion of humanity and build him a ship. However, Harper sabotaged the ship and sent Xemnu to orbit the sun for a while. He would later return but was defeated by Harper again, having his psychical body destroyed.

He would later returned and tried to take control of Earth’s children by pretending to be a TV shows mascot but was defeated by the original Defenders (Hulk, Dr. Strange and Namor). He would later take over the body of a town’s mayor and used the town people to build a ship but again was defeated by the Hulk with the help of Strange and Valkyrie. Tired of losing to the Hulk, he sent robotic copies of some of Marvel’s Monster (including the original Groot) but lost again. He return the form of the mayor and tried to take over the world through TV again, using Wonder Man in his plans but was defeated by the Thing. He would later try and make She-Hulk his bride by transforming her into one of his species.

At some point he was part of Ultron’s Phalanx before becoming a guard in Monster Metropolis. He would later battle Hulk and Red Hulk which would lead to the 2 Hulk combining into the Compound Hulk by Impossible Man. He would later team up with Roxxon and used his powers to replaced the Hulk in the memories of everybody with himself. People would believe that Xemnu saved them in the past instead of the Hulk. Hulk eventually broke his control over people and defeated him.

Xemnu is not a character many people have heard of but he is considered a classic Hulk villain. He would unexpectedly get a figure in the form of the Hasbro Super-Villains wave’s BAF.

  • Background:
    • Original orange/brown due to printers of the time, when he made the jump into the modern Marvel Universe, they changed his colors to white. This would become his default design for many years, rarely changing. Like all Classic version, it has been drawn differently by different artists.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • This is a character you will have to get for your Hulk’s villains collection. He is considered on of Hulk’s most frequent and most dangerous foes. This is especially true if you read the read Immortal Hulk storyline. If that doesn’t interest you, then you may want him for your Defenders or Marvel Monsters.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.
