She is the latest member of the White Tiger Hispanic legacy. Introduced in Avengers Academy #20 (2011) by Christos N. Gage and Tom Raney, Ava Ayala is the younger sister of Hector Ayala and the aunt of Angela del Toro, both of whom took their family’s role of the White Tiger. However, Hector was killed when he was mistaken as a criminal and the rest of the family beside Angela and Ava were killed by Gideon Mace. After Angela’s brief stint as the hero, she gave Ava the tiger amulet that gave the family their abilities. She was recruited into the Avengers Academy where she trained with the original class.

After graduating, she joined the Heroes for Hire, where she met Power Man (Víctor Álvarez). They began working under Luke Cage but when Thanos’ forces invaded Earth and Ebony Maw controlled Dr. Strange to release Shuma-Gorath on New York, she would team up with several heroes and defeated it. These heroes stayed together as the Mighty Avengers. She became close with Power Man, and they would begin a relationship. When she found Gideon Mace was released and was gathering a gang, she confronted him. She was about to kill him but was prevented from doing so by the Avengers. Taken into custody, she confronted the Tiger God that gave her family their powers through the Amulet and convince it she was in charge.

After the Mighty Avengers were forced to break up, she would join Sunspot’s New Avengers with Power Man, but they had broken up and remained friends. She would lose her powers after a deluded Angela confronted Ava, believing she had stolen her powers. Angela used another amulet from another universe, which caused the Tiger god to abandon Ava. Despite this, she continued her role as White Tiger. She would free her niece’s mind when the New Revengers attacked the New Avengers based and she managed to snatch the amulet away from Angela. The pair would help defeat the New Revengers and would continue with the New Avengers together until they took over AIM. She would retire but soon returned as a member of the Defenders.

Ava’s version of the White Tiger is most famous for being a main character in the “Ultimate Spider-man” cartoon show, which released around the time she was introduced into the comics. Thus was the reason she would receive a figure as part of the Rhino wave.

Recommend Figure:  Hasbro Marvel Legends Spider-man Rhino Wave – Marvel’s White Tiger

  • Background:
    • Like all of the White Tiger legacy, Ava is usually seen wearing a nearly all white costume. However, Ava has a more feline look with a cat like mask and claws. All wear the Tiger Amulet.
  •  Why you need it for your collection?:
    • A rather obscure character, she is one you will need mostly to complete teams, particularly Avengers Academy, Mighty Avengers, New Avengers, Heroes for Hire or Defenders. You can also get it if you are a fan of the Ultimate Spider-man cartoon. Beside those or if you want her for your Street Level or having a Hispanic character, you may want to skip.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.
