Stan Lee, Larry Leiber and Jack Kirby had just created the strongest man alive with the Hulk. They then decided they wanted to up the anti by creating someone even more powerful. But who could be stronger then the strongest mortal? What about a god? Since the Greek Gods had been done to death, Stan used gods from Norse Mythology instead. Thus he used the greatest champion in Norse Mythology Thor for his newest character, which they introduced in Journey into Mystery #83(1962) .

Thor was an arrogant young god who broke a peace deal between the Asgard and another race. To punish him, Odin sent him to Earth without any memories of his time as a god and turned him into the mortal form of the limp Donald Blake. Years later while on vacation, Donald was attacked by an Rock like alien-race called Kronan, who Korg is a member of. In fact Korg was actually one of the aliens that Thor originally fought before he was made a Gladiator in Planet Hulk. Blake escaped into a cave, where he found a cane in a cave. Picking the cane up, he struck it against the cave wall and was transformed into Thor. He then fought and defeated Kronan and became a hero to Earth.

As for toys, despite being one of the major characters in the Marvel Universe, he really hasn’t gotten the amount of figures you would think. Hopefully the upcoming Thor waves will change that.

Have

God Butcher Arc’s Young Thor

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Thor: Ragnarok Gladiator Hulk wave Odinson

  • Background:
    • In story line that involved Thor battle Gor the God Butcher, we got to see 3 versions of Thor, from past, present and future. In the past, the story tells how a young arrogant Thor, before he wielded Mjolnir, has tracked down Gor because he had killed off another pantheon of gods. They battled in a cave where Thor was captured and dragged into the future where he met his great granddaughters as well as a present day Thor and King Thor. Together they defeated the God Butcher and stopped him from killing all of the gods in the universe. The young Thor went back in time and forced himself to forget the event. It was also seen when battle Apocalypse in the past.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • Alongside Marvel Now Thor and the King Thor BAF, we now have the three Thor from that storyline. However unless Hasbro decides to release Gor, then it might not be worth getting this but it’s a most have for Thor fans.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • Just getting released so no.
