The Kingpin’s son became quite a schemer, didn’t he? Introduced in Amazing Spider-Man #83 (1970) by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr., Richard Fisk is the son of Wilson Fisk and his wife, Vanessa. Richard would grow up admiring his father believing he was a legitimate businessman and would brag about his family and their riches. When he discovered the truth about his father, he faked his death and took on the identity of the Schemer. He would work to bring down his father’s empire and succeeded causing his father to fall into a coma. He would reconsider and joined Hydra to find a cure for his father, becoming Supreme Hydra. He cured his father and Kingpin would take control of his branch of Hydra before discovering that Red Skull were controlling this set of events. Working together with Captain America, they took down this branch of Hydra, but Richard would be injured and placed in hibernation by his father. He was cured by his father by siphoning Spider-man’s life force.

The father and son would reconcile, but Richard would become the Rose when the Hobgoblin (then Ned Leeds) proposed they would team up to take down Kingpin. As the Rose, he would join Kingpin’s crime gang and would send his men to fix football games but was stopped by Spider-man and a Daily Bugle reporter Wendy Thorton. When Ned was killed by the Foreigner’s men, Rose admitted to his father who he was. He later took on the role of Blood Rose in another scheme but was forced to return to the Rose identity again when this failed. After a number of other schemes failed, he turned to alcohol and would try and kill his father himself. This failed and he was later killed by his mother.

He was later resurrected by Jackal (Reilly) and would work with the villain as the Rose once more before he was killed during the Clone Conspiracy when his body decayed. He was sent to Hell and would begin working for Mephisto. When Johnny Blaze tried to get him to betray Mephisto, Rose refused but gave Blaze the map to his castle. Richard was later resurrected by his father Life and Destiny and Death and Entropy Tablet and would return to his role as the Rose with his father.

While Kingpin is one of the most famous villains in comic, his son is less known. That doesn’t mean that there is no one that was asking for a Rose figure because there was. He would receive a figure as part of the 2023 Spider-man wave.

Classic

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Spider-man Retro wave 3 – The Rose

  • Background:
    • While Richard is the Rose, he is usually seen with a business suit (usually white) with a rose on his jacket. He would also always wear a purple mask and gloves. The glassed and been seen as been drawn both clear and opaque.
  • Why do you need it for your collection?
    • This is a figure that few people may want to add to their collection. If you are a Spider-man fan, then he is needed for the rogue’s gallery. You may also want him for your gangster collection, particularly standing next to the Kingpin or leading your hoodlum (Tracksuit Mafia) characters.
  • Does it need a remake?
    • No.
