Introduced in Amazing Spider-Man #134, Anton Miguel Rodriquez was a revolutionary in his home country of Delvadia but was expelled from his group when he killed a security guard in cold blood. He was then offered the role of the Fascist government’s version of Captain America and became the Tarantula. He used his skill against his former comrades, but his violent tendency caused even the corrupt government to expel him. He fled to New York and began working for crimelord. This would bring him to clash with Spider-man and the Punisher.
He would then become a mercenary and began working for the Jackal and other criminals. He was eventually captured and mutated into a humanoid Tarantula by the Brand Corporation. He would seek revenge but was stopped by Spider-man and Will O’ The Wisp. Not wanting to live life as a monster he attacked some NYPD officer who shot him to death. His role was later given to other people like Luis Alvarez but he was later revived in a cloned body by Jackal (Reilly). He was one of few to survive the clone degeneration cause when Doc Ock betrayed the Jackal. He was later captured by Taskmaster and Black Ant for Kraven’s Great Hunt and joined the Savage Six to help the others escape. He was forced to remain in the team by Vulture.
Tarantula is a lesser-known Spider-man villain that has a small fan base. He would receive a figure as part of Hasbro’s second attempt at the Spider-man classic line.
