He went from being a god to a substitute Spider-man….. I don’t know if that is an upgrade or a downgrade. Introduced in Osborn #1 (2010) by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Emma Rios, Ai Apaec was a god worshipped by the Moche people in what would become Peru. He was eventually captured by the US and sent to a special prison center for the Earth’s most dangerous villains. After his defeat at Siege, Norman Obsorn was sent there and working with Ai and other inmates, staged a massive breakout. They all escaped, with Osborn surrendering and Ai returning to Peru. After a brief encounter with Shang-Chi, Obsorn would escaped custody and reformed Hammers, travelling to Peru to recruit Ai. He reminded Ai of the debt he had and gave Ai a drug that transformed his body into a version of Spider-man’s black suit but with six arms.

Osborn would then recruit other villains and formed an new team of Dark Avengers, with Ai taking the role of Spider-man. The team went about trying to convince the world that the Avengers were illegally operating and imprisoned the patriot Osborn. They would battle the New Avengers a few times until it was revealed that Dark Avenger member, Skaar, was a double agent for Steve Rogers and summoned the Avengers to defeat Osborn. The Dark Avengers were sent to the Rafts, which was under the command of Luke Cage and his Thunderbolts team. When the Thuderbolts went missing in the timestream, the Dark Avengers were implanted with nanites and placed under the command of Luke Cage, with the aid of Skaar. The Dark Avengers, of course, went rogue which caused Luke and Skaar to try and track them down. They were eventually apprehended by the Thunderbolts and sent back to the Raft. After an adventure in an alternate universe, Ai was shrunk down and crushed by Toxie Doxie but given his godhood, he could have survived.

  • When he escaped custody, Osborn used social media and the news to try and get people to believe that he was a victim of injustice. Reforming Hammer, he began recruiting a new team of Dark Avengers, with each member taking the place of the true Avengers. He recruited Ai to become the team’s Spider-man using a special drug to turn him into a Black Suit Spider-man but with 6 arms.
