You know if it wasn’t for this villain, not only would the X-men not exist but Storm probably wouldn’t be a member. Introduced in X-Men #117 (1979) by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, he was using his powers to control the street urchin’s of Cairo to pickpocket and steal for him, when he encountered and was defeat by a young Charles Xavier in a psychic battle. This led Xavier to believe he needed to create a team to fight and protect mutants against these evil mutants. However, this leading Shadow King to possessed other people including the New Mutant Karma for many months.

He was also the reason that Gambit and Storm met when she was de-aged and had his servants chase her. He also possessed Moira MacTaggart, Val Cooper and even Xavier’s son, Legion. He later cause the Psi-Wars which saw him being defeated and trapped by Psylocke, where he remained until her death. He then tried to use an alternate universe Xavier and used him to corrupt his team of original X-men to become the Shadow X-men. He was defeated by a new team of Excalibur. He became a member of the Brotherhood trying to defeat the Uncanny X-men, including exposing the team’s questionable actions. When Xavier was killed by Cyclops, he took a part of the Professor’s soul so he could torture him. But this eventually led to Xavier return to the living in Fantomex’s body as X.

Shadow King has been a villain that people have been asking for for quite a while. However, the one we wanted was the Astral Form version. Now that could very well be coming as a BAf but at the moment Hasbro has decided to give us his human form as a swappable head to the Kingpin BAF in the Prof X riders box.

• Background:
  • When Shadow King usually appear in human form, it is usually as Amahl Farouk. However, it has been heavily hint that this is just one of many bodies that Shadow King has as he is a psychic being rather then a mutant.
•  Why you need it for your collection?:
  • When people asked for Kingpin, Hasbro usually joked that he was just a fat guy in a suit. After, it was announced they said, well let’s get another fat guy in a suit done. If you are an X-men fan and don’t mind buying a Spider-man wave (well most of it) in order to get him, then it would be worth it. However, given the expense it might well be skipped.
