She could very well be the oldest mutant in the world. Introduced in New Mutants #9 (1983) by Chris Claremont and Sal Buscema, the woman who would become Selene was born 17000 years ago. Thanks to her powers, she survived by absorbing the life force of others. She would remain hidden until her cult was found by the New Mutants. After a battle with them and the X-men, she would join up with the Hellfire Club, becoming the Black Queen and having a fierce rivalry with Emma Frost. She was the one that wanted Namor to take the position of White King but he refused.

She was later nearly killed by Rachel Summer only to be saved by Wolverine, who didn’t want Rachel to become a killer. In revenge for the attempted murder, she lead the Hellfire Club in a battle with the X-men. However, this battle was interrupted by Nimrod, leading to the 2 team fighting the future Sentinel. She was later present when Magneto became the White King and revealed that she may be Magma’s ancestor. She would remain with the Club, even battle Captain America and Diamondback. She would become the head of the Club by killing her fellow Inner Circle members and set up a mutant hunting group called the Upstart. She even managed to get Madelyne Pryor to join the Club. She later brought Blackheart into the Inner Circle as well as tried to get Sunspot to lead the Club. She would leave the Club shortly after.

She would later seduce Eli Bard into use the Technarchy to revive many people, leading to the Necropolis arc, which saw the reanimted corpses attacking the X-men. They were stopped by the Uncanny X-force. She would believed killed but later revived by the Sisterhood of Mutants. During Secret Empire, she became the head of the Power Elite and later helped revive Alexander Lukin, where she battle Cap again. She has since been allowed to join the other mutants on Krakoa.

Selene has been request by a some fans for a while, usually has part of a Hellfire Club box set. Hasbro answered Fan Request by making her part of (of course) a Hellfire Club Box set that was supposed to be their 2020 SDCC exclusive, now Pulse Exclusive. She is a swappable head for the Jean Grey Black Queen figure.

Black Queen

Recommend Figure:  Hasbro Pulse Exclsuive Marvel Legends Hellfire Club Box set – Selene (swappable head of Black Queen) with Emma Frost, Sebastion Shaw and Donald Pierce

  • Background:
    • Taking their design from Victorian corset and stuff, most of the female members of the Hellfire Club wore sexy outfits. Soon after joined the Inner Circle, Selene would wear nearly the same outfit as Jean Grey. It was at this point that Selene became known for wearing tight black dresses.
  • Why you need it for your collection?:
    • If you are getting the Hellfire Club, I recommend using the Black Queen figure as this one. There really is no need to use it for Jean Grey as there are plenty of figure for her, while this may be the only one for Selene. Get for your Hellfire Club members as well as X-men, New Mutants and Captain America villains.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.
