He may be purple, but he is no royal. Introduced in Daredevil #4 (1864) by Stan Lee and Joe Orlando, Zedediah Killgrave was a former spy that was accidentally dosed in chemicals that turn his skin purple and gave him the powers to control people. He would use his powers to seduce a number of woman, one of which resulted in the birth of his daughter, Kara, who would go onto become the hero Persausion. He traveled to New York to take over the underworld but was defeated by Daredevil and then tried to take over San Fransico’s underworld buy again was defeated by DD. After he made Maxwell Glenn, the father of DD’s girlfriend Heather. to commit suicide. He was confronted by DD and seemingly dead by drowning.

After being forced to work for Kingpin, he was defeated by DD and Moon Knight before being captured and used by Dr. Doom. It took the Avengers to defeat him. After building up X-man’s followers, he began his most famous event, meeting Jessica Jones. Jessica was going by the super-hero name Jewel at the time when she encountered Purple Man. He used his powers to control and abuse Jessica for months. It took the combine powers of Scarlet Witch and Jean Grey to save her but the event left Jessica with severe trauma, causing her to give up the Super-hero life.

Many months later, he would be sent to the Raft and was involved with Electro massive break out. He tried to control Luke Cage, one of the few heroes there, but Luke, who was dating Jessica Jones who was pregnant with his child, beat Killgrave senseless for what he did to his girlfriend. He would later try and attack the Thunderbolts but was defeated before trying to escape to Canada during the Civil War. After joining Hood’s gang, he was sent back to the Raft where he has an encounter with Avengers Academy.

He escaped the Raft when Juggernaut was chosen was one of the Worthy in Fear Itself before trying to set up a Villains for Hire team. It was later revealed that Kara wasn’t his only child as he had raped many women and made them give birth to his children. He recruited these children, but they turned against him and overpowered him. He would try to kill them, but they were saved by DD. He confronted Jessica again but after she defeated him, he dropped dead. However, more of his children want revenge against him for what he did to their mothers, so they resurrected him. He was later forced by Kingpin, then Mayor of New York, to force the city to re-elect him but was defeated by a number of heroes, with Luke Cage becoming Mayor.

Purple Man is more famous for his role in Jessica Jones backstory than anything else, which is why he was the main villains for her Netflix series. However, because of what he did in that series and well as to various woman in the comics, it makes giving him a figure hard. However, he would receive a figure as part of a SDCC The Raft box set.
