She is the former NYPD officer with the golden……hand? Introduced in Marvel Premiere #21 (1974) by Tony Isabella and Arvell Jones, (though retconned to have appeared earlier in Marvel Team-Up #1 (1971) as a mugging victim), Mercedes “Misty” Knight was a former NYCC detective that lost her hand trying to defuse a bomb. Saddled with a desk job, she was rewarded for her heroism by Tony Stark, who gave her a bionic hand. Refusing to take a desk job, she would leave the NYPD and with her friend Colleen Wing, they set up Nightwing Restorations, Ltd.

When the Cult of Kali kidnapped Colleen, Misty would meet and fight Iron Fist, believing him to be part of the Cult. The pair would then work together to defeat the Cult and rescue Colleen. The pair would continue to work together and eventually fell in love. Colleen and Misty would also gain the moniker of Daughters of the Dragon after defeating Steel Serpent. After Luke Cage and Iron Fist formed Heroes for Hire, Misty and Colleen would continue to work with them. After Iron Fist was replaced with a H’ylthri duplicate and later believed dead, she would find evidence that he was still alive and worked with Namor to find her love. After he returned and with no work for her, she became a paralegal for Murdock and Nelson Law Firm.

Against Iron Fist and Luke Cages wishes, Misty registered with the SHRA and formed a new Heroes for Hire. But after the Hulk returned from his exile on Sakaar, the team broke up. She would later move in with Iron Fist and become pregnant with his child. However, after the events of Shadowland, she learnt that her pregnancy was false. This news caused a strain on the couple’s relationship, and they would eventually break up. At some point, she was kidnapped by Puppet Master and forced to set up a new Heroes for Hire team, which had a system that would “hire” any hero that could aid in the situation. The only permanent member was Paladin, who later learnt of her situation and saved her. They continued for a while and even helped break up a Villains for Hire team, set up by Purple Man.

Before Sam Wilson took on the mantle of Captain America, Misty infiltrated a shadow group of Hydra. When Cap and Nomad fought the villains, Misty revealed herself to the pair and helped stop Hydra’s plan. Misty and Sam began working together and began a relationship. She would soon join the FBI division of Aberrant Crimes Division. Working together with John Jameson, the two would learn that Carnage was back. They worked with other heroes and helped with the defeat of the Cult of Knull. After she would get a job at Ravencroft as a counselor, using her work with Villains for Hire to reform the criminals. After Plague attacked the institute, she would reform Nightwing LTD with Colleen before joining Ben Reilly in the Beyond corporation. She would help Monica Rambeau bring it down.

Unless you are a fan of Iron Fist or Heroes for Hire, Misty Knight is not a character you would have heard much of, beyond her popping up in other series. She would receive a figure as part of the Spider-man’s Rhino wave.

Control

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Spider-man Rhino wave – Heroes for Hire Misty Knight

  • Background:
    • Following the breakup with Iron Fist, Misty believed that she had set up a new Heroes for Hire, where she would hire any Hero near the vicinity or who was best for the job. She would take the role of Control, calling these heroes to set up these hires. However, this turned out to be in her head, as Puppet Master was controlling her. After she was freed, she kept the role going.
  •  Why you need it for your collection?:
    • This is a character you may want to get for your Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Captain America or Heroes for Hire collections. Given that we haven’t gotten a Colleen Wing yet from the comics, you can’t really use it for that.
  • Does it need a remake?:
    • No.
