  • Base of Operations: None. The Legion of the Unliving is only active for short periods at a time and are usually only active in an area where they’re directly engaging their enemies (usually the Avengers).

In order to get revenge, Grim Reaper decided to form his own undead gang. Introduced in Avengers #353 (1992) by Len Kaminski, M.C. Wyman, Kurt Busiek and George Perez, a former member of Kang’s Legion, Grim Reaper used necromancy to create zombiefied versions of a few of the Avengers’ villains who were believed dead at the time. (Due to later stories, these were later revealed to be fascimilies of these characters.) The members included Amenhotep/Kufor, Baron Heinrich Zemo, Black Knight (Garrett), Count Nefaria, Inferno (Conroy), Nebulon, Necrodamus, Red Guardian (Shostakov) and Star Stalker (Varanus). He sent the team against the Avengers, who he blamed for his death. However, during the fight he learnt the truth, that he had killed himself which cause the Legion to turn against him and him being dragged to hell.

He, of course, would return and formed a new team, this time with a team of dead Avengers (the real ones this time.) These included his brother, Wonder Man, Captain Marvel (Mar-Vel), Doctor Druid, Hellcat, Swordsman (Duquesne), Thunderstrike (Eric Masterson) and Mockingbird (who was later revealed to be a Skrull that had replaced Mockingbird). They managed to defeat the Avengers but Scarlet Witch magic and Wonder Man ionic state caused the Legion to return to normal and turn on Grim Reaper. After the fight they disappeared to the afterlife again, except Wonder man who was restored to life due to Wanda’s magic.
