In case you didn’t know, a Shrike is a type of bird that impales it’s prey on branches, also know as butcherbird. Introduced in Rampaging Hulk #1 (1976) by John Warner and John Buscema, Simon Maddicks was a mercenary selected by Roxxon to become their covert operative. He was surgically enhance and given the name Killer Shrike by the subsidiary Brand Corporation. He was sent to infiltrate the Conspiracy who sent him out to capture the monster Goram, which brought him into conflict with Ulysses Bloodstone, who defeated him and took him to hospital where he laid in a coma for weeks. He awoke with partial amnesia and went in search of the doctor that enhanced him. The doctor had turned himself into Modular Man and force Maddicks’ to help gain more power in exchange for him restoring Maddicks’ memories. They were defeated by Spider-man and the Beast but Modular Man was killed. Some Brand agent’s found Maddick’s and restored his memories and he became the bodyguard of the Brand President until the company disolved.

Later he was captured by Locksmith, who was capturing power heroes to keep normal people safe. He captured Spider-woman, who worked with other prisoners she trusted to free all the captive, handing Shrike and others to the police. He would later be seen robbing banks since no organization would hire him and mistakenly believed Spider-man was after him. (Spidey was on a different mission and didn’t have time for him.) After getting enhanced by the Tinkerer, he refused to pay which cause Tinkerer to help Spidey take him down. He was later captured by the Avengers and given to SHIELD, who he brought to a location that led Nick Fury to enact his Secret War against Latvaria. He was last seen joining the Shadow Council’s Masters of Evil.
