He is still the youngest member of the X-men (at least at the start). Introduced in Ultimate X-men #1 (2000) by Mark Millar and Adam Kubert, when this version of Bobby Drake’s powers manifested, he ran away from home to escape from persecution from the Sentinels. He was tracked down by the X-men but were attacked by Sentinel. Bobby used his powers to save innocent bystanders and Beast gave him the name Iceman. Bobby would join the X-men becoming a valued member of the team as well as it’s youngest member. Later, he was injured by Proteus, Xavier’s son, and he was taken out of the school by his parents for his safety. He would return to the school soon after and began dating Rogue.

They would soon break up when it became apparent that Bobby was attracted to Kitty and Rogue was attracted to Gambit, who convinced her to leave the team. They would get back together after Rogue returned to the team and had control of her powers. He would remain in the school after Cyclops disbanded the X-men but after Xavier returned, he would rejoin the team and fought Colossus’s drug enhanced team of X-men. When Magneto enacted the Ultimatum Wave, Bobby was one of the few surviving members of the X-men and fought against the Brotherhood with other heroes. He would leave the X-men and moved in with the Parkers, becoming close with Human Torch and Spider-man. He tried to help Spider-man fight the Goblin, but he had to witness the death of his friend. He would return to the X-men alongside Johnny and stayed in the Morlock tunnels. He would leave with Kitty’s team of X-men to free the mutants that were being persecuted in the south of America.

This version of Iceman got a figure as part of the third wave of X-men Classics line. He was one of 2 variants for the 616 Iceman figure, the other being Bobby Drake.

Ultimate X-men

Recommend Figure: Toybiz X-men Series 3 – Iceman (Variant)

  • Background:
    • In the Ultimate Universe, the X-men wore similar black uniforms with yellow straps. In Iceman for, Bobby would wear a bandana as well as a scarf on his bicep. Depending on the artist, this could have the X-men symbol on it.
  • Why do you need it for your collection?
    • If you want to build up your Ultimate Universe collections you will need this for your Ultimate X-men team to go alongside Wolverine and Nightcrawler as well as for your Spider-man collection.
  • Does it need a remake?
    • Yes. The figure is one a much older build and is too large for a teenage Bobby.
