He capitalized on the term Super-villain franchises. Introduced in Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man #43 (1980) by Roger Stern and Mike Zeck, Kingsley was a ruthless fashion designer when a bank robber approached him and told him that he had found a Green Goblin’s weapon cache. After killing the robber, Kingsley began studying the equipment and info he could find and design a similar yet new identity of Hobgoblin. He would even replicate the Goblin formula and tested it on Lefty Donovan, who he sent as Hobgoblin to battle Spider-man while he watched. Kingsley found the test a success and killed Donovan. As Hobgoblin, he would battle Spider-man and Black Cat, which resulted in him pretending to drown.

This led Kingsley to work behind the scenes. He would brainwash Ned Leeds into believe he was the Original Hobgoblin which would result in the death of Leeds when he was shot by the Police. He would also manipulate Richard Fisk into becoming the Rose. He would later use his twin brother Daniel as Hobgoblin but he was shot by the Rose’s gang. When Jason Macendale assume the mantle, Kingsley left the roleto him until Macendale began bringing attention to Kinsley’s corrupt company. He killed Macendale but Betty Brent, Ned Leed’s widow and Daily Bugle reporter, uncovered the truth and Spider-man finally unmasked the Hobgoblin. Kingsley was sent to jail but would eventually escape and, after a brief battle with Green Goblin, he faked his death and escape Carribean.

Years, later it was revealed that he had made a business in selling off Super-Villains identities, both new and old, along with the equipment the identity may have. He would later learn that Ben Urich had killed his brother and taken up the mantle of Hobgoblin. He would return to New York and would battle Urich but afterward allowed Urich to remain as Hobgoblin, for a fee. This would come back to bite him in the butt when Urich couldn’t pay this fee and had to rob banks. This led to Urich being arrest with Menace helping him escape and Urich joining Green Goblin’s team. This led to the Goblin war, which saw Kingsley and many of his super-villains battle Green Goblin and his Goblin Army. Spider-man, having return from the dead and regained his body from Ock, manage to lead the hero in stopping this war. Kingsley escaped but would later returned during Axis being one of the villains that joined the Astonishing Avengers. He would later join with Aaron Davis’s Sinister Six. His latest appearance saw him being sent to Ravencroft Institute.

Hobgoblin, any version, have been fan favourites but it’s Kingsley version that they are particularly known for. He would receive a few figures over the years. His first ML scaled figure was part of the Spider-man Classic Line. He wouldn’t receive an official Marvel Legends figure until the Space Venom wave.
