The Punisher with the direct connection to a crime family is actually the kindest Punisher? Introduced in Punisher (Vol. 2) #86 (1993) by Steven Grant and Hugh Haynes, Jimmy Cullen grew up trying to avoid his crime family the Cullen, after he learnt they had his father killed for leaving his mother and trying to pull them away from the family. In an effort to do such, he joined the army, serving in the Navy Seal and becoming a Golden Glove boxer. When Frank Castle was presumed killed, the Cullens forced Jimmy to take up the mantle, albeit one who answered to them only. Jimmy resisted but they forced him when they said they had his mother hostage.

He was sent to take out rival family but he would try and solve it with as little killing as he could. In one particular raid on a crackhouse, he ran into other Punisher copycats. Together they began investigating Castle’s death and trying to find out if he was really dead. While investigating sightings in LA, they were ambushed by Dean Swaybricks’ Punisher squad. During the fight the rest of the Punishers abandoned Swaybricks for his bloodlust, allowing Jimmy to kill him. This traumatised Jimmy as he knelt beside the body only to be shot in the back by the VIGIL agent Taylor Blackwell. He survived however and would later work together with the real Punisher to take down his family.
