Friends and lover may come and go from Matt’s life but Foggy will always be by his side. Introduced in Daredevil #1 (1964) by Stan Lee and Bill Everett, Foggy was abandoned by his mother but grew up being loved by his stepmother. While in college studying law, Foggy met his roommate, Matt Murdock. The two became the best of friends. So much so that once they graduated, they opened a law firm together, Nelson and Murdock. They hired Karen Page as their secretary, who Foggy developed a crush on. One of their first clients was the Fantastic Four, who they helped the team gain the leash for the Baxter Building. Later he got a job at the district attorney, closing their practice. He tried to start dating Karen but her love for Matt prevented this. He eventually ran for DA himself and won, beginning a relationship with his high school sweetheart, Debbie Harris. He won the election and Matt would move to San Francisco. After Matt had returned, Foggy would eventually lose his re-election and they would reopen their practice.

He would later marry Debbie but their marriage fell apart when Debbie began believing he was just a boring lawyer. He would date Liz Allen after but was framed for murder by Mysterio. After Matt was outed as Daredevil, he was visiting Matt in prison when he was stabbed and seemingly killed by inmates. However, this was a ruse as he was safe, having being placed in witness protection. He tried to escape but was captured by the Mafia. They were killed by the Hand under orders from Elektra and Foggy was returned to the FBI. He was eventually reunited with Matt and they reformed their law practice with Becky Blake coming on as a new partner. However, the stress of Matt’s erratic behavior, Matt’s treatment of Milla, Matt’s wife, and the way he treated Milla’s parents, cause Foggy to fire Matt.

Under manipulations from Kingpin, Foggy was disbarred but would later be reinstated. Foggy would later be diagnosed with cancer. When Matt revealed his identity to the world to stop some villains, thus being disbarred from the court due to perjury having lied about not being DD in court, Matt realise that Foggy may be in danger. So with the help of Leap-Frog and Hank Pym, they fakes Foggy’s death and moved to San Francisco, so Matt could continue practicing law and Foggy could get treatment in peace. Foggy would write Matt’s Biography during this time but the Shroud revealed that Foggy was alive to the public. After the Purple Children erased Matt’s identity from the world including Foggy, Foggy would learn the truth shortly after and became Matt’s confidence once again.

When Kingpin was made mayor, he hired Matt as his deputy mayor. Matt hired Foggy as his chief of staff and left when Matt quit. Foggy was killed and revived by the Hand, acting as an unwilling spy for them when Matt and Elektra formed the Hand. Killed again later, his soul was sent to the realm of the Beast. Daredevil traveled to this realm and rescued Foggy and other souls held their. After returning to the living world, Foggy founded Nelson North Legal Services along with former police detective Cole North.
