Even an unstoppable Juggernaut needs a friend. Introduced in X-Men #99 (1976) by Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum, this Irish criminal, and cousin to the X-man Banshee, began his career early on in life which lead to him being sent to prison. There, he met and befriended Cain Marko, the Juggernaut, which began a lifelong friendship. The two would partner up for many crimes and battle the X-men on occasions. Later, it was revealed that he had taken in Banshee’s daughter after the death of her mother.
During a battle with Cable, Tom was shot and taken to France. There he was given a plant-like substance that healed his wounds. However, this cause him to develop a secondary mutation that slowly transformed him into a plant like being. He searched for a cure, even trying to get Deadpool’s healing factor. He later attacked Banshee and Generation X. He eventually joined a team of the Brotherhood and attacked the X-men. After killing one of the young mutants, Squid Boy, Juggernaut, who had joined the Brotherhood as a double agent for the X-men, attacked the team as he had become close to the child. The team was defeat by being transported to the Mojoverse. He sold Juggernaut and Nocturne to Mojo to return home.
He lost his powers and cure of the plant substance during M-Day and was next seen committing a crime in London. Juggernaut, now a member of Excalibur, managed to talk Tom down, using Tom’s guilt at killing Squid Boy. He was sent to prison. Juggernaut went to Tom in prison and asked was it possible for people like him to change and find redemption. Tom told him that people like them can’t change their ways. He eventually regained his power and later teamed up with Juggernaut to rob a cruise ship but were stopped by the time-displaced X-men. He has since joined many mutants on the Island of Krakoa.
While Black Tom is not a character that many people even know, he has had a few figures over the years. However, the only Marvel Legend he has had is the Strong Guy wave version from Hasbro. This may be due to his short appearance in the Deadpool 2 movie.

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Marvel Legends Deadpool Strong Guy Wave – Black Tom Cassidy
- Background:
- This is Black Tom’s most famous and classic costume. Like many classic costumes, it has been changed due to artist interpretations, such as it having a purple coloring or a different collar.
- Why you need it for your collection?:
- There is 2 main reasons to get this. One is to have Banshee’s arch-enemy to fight. The other and most important reason, is for him to stand with Juggernaut as these 2 have one of the longest partnership in comics. As for other reasons, it can be got for a Brotherhood display, or if you want to recreate the iconic story of him in the Cassidy Keep.
- Does it need a remake?:
- No.
