He is a dead Nazi skeleton, kept alive by a hive of mutated bees…… No, I did not make that up. Introduced in Champions #14 (1977) By Bill Mantlo and John Byrne, Fritz von Meyer was a Nazi supporter with a interest in insects during WWII but fled to South America with a load of gold. He began experimenting on killer bees that were mutated by a meteorite, in an effort to control them and take over the world, but before all of that, they attacked and killed him. However, he manage to psionically send his mind into the queen. Decades later, the bees formed around his body and he was “reborn” again. Taking the name Swarm, he first came into superhero notice when he build giant robot bee and sent them to attack LA, clashing with the original Champions. They defeat him by remove the queen bee from his body and making the hive chasing her, leaving Swarm’s body, seemingly dying again.
His body was later sent to Empire State University for Professor Sloan. However, the Professor accidentally reactivated Swarm. He would clash with Spider-man, who with the aid of Sloan and several student, developed a toxic that turned the bees against Swarm and the queen. The hive would leave his body. (Noticing a pattern)? After teaming up with Kraven and being defeated by Iceman and Firestar, his body was left in a container in ESU until a clash between Doc Ock and the Answer, caused him to escape and reform. Together with the villains and Rhino, they attacked Spider-man, until Rhino accidentally hit him with a beam. He still remain active, reforming thanks to Onslaught but was tricked by Ben Reilly into building a device that grounded his bee again. He would later tried to being about the downfall of mankind but clashed with the Secret Defenders.
He would later try and take the Pride’s place but clashed with the Runaways. During the Civil Wars and after Spider-man revealed his identity to the world, he joined the Exterminators and attacked Mary Jane. She defeated him. He was later captured by Kraven along with other animal theme villains. Kept in a cages with collars with bombs, he was later released to attack Punisher. He would later clash with the Thunderbolts and later the Pym’s Mighty Avengers. He would later attack the Jean Grey’s School but was easily beaten back by Krakoa, the Bamps and Doop, even after he teamed up with Master Pandemonium. He would later form his own version of The Sinister Six but they were easily defeated by the X-men’s Special Class led by Spider-man. Blaming humanity for the decline of bees, he attack New York when all the heroes were busy, except Squirrel Girl. He was defeated by Victor Mancha and his nephew Vin.
He later formed the Hateful Hexad and clashed with Deadpool and Spider-man. He would later clash with Ghost Spider and Spider-man when he used his swarm to resurrect a Utahraptor ostrommaysorum skeleton, which somehow merge and turning him into the Dinoswarm. He was later captured by Macrothrax, who wanted to conquer the world with insect. He escaped and sought Ant-man help in stopping Macrothrax. He was later seen in Criminal Technology Show where we sought to gain new tech before joining Zippy Pig’s Masters of Animal Evil and fought the Pet Avengers. He would later attack Avengers Academy to try and steal the M’Krann Cystal.
Possible Figures
- Which has the best chance of being made? – Swarm has had only one look, a body covered in bees, with gloves and a hooded cape.
- How can it be made? – You would think this guy would be hard to make but we actually have the perfect body for him, the Spider-man: No Way Home’s Sandman body. All they need to do is give him a cape, with a new head and gloves. As for the wave it can be slotted into, since his Toybiz retro figure was part of the Spider-man line but he can also be slotted into an Avengers wave as well.
