When Steve Rogers disappeared and America needed a symbol, he stepped up. Introduced in Captain America Comics #49 (1945) by Roy Thomas, Frank Robbins and Vince Alascia, William Nasland was a costumed hero fighting the Nazi as part of the British team, the Crusaders, being the only American on the team. However, this team broke up when a Nazi agent infiltrated them and set them up against the Invaders. Nasland would continue fighting Nazi and would event team up the original Captain America and Patriot.

When Captain America and Bucky were seemingly killed near the end of WWII, President Truman wanted to keep the legacy alive and recruited Nasland to become the new Captain America. Teaming up with Fred Davis as his new Bucky, the pair would join the Invaders. After WWII, he would return to the US and would continue their adventures, both solo and as part of the All-Winner Squad. Nasland would eventually be killed by a rogue android, Adam II. Despite his best effort to save his friend, Jeffrey Mace, Patriot, took on the mantle of Captain America to honor both Rogers and Nasland.

While we haven’t gotten an official figure of Nasland, since he would wear the classic Captain America costume, you can use any of the Classic Captain America as Nasland as well.

Second Captain America

Recommend Figure: Hasbro Fan Channel Exclusive Marvel Legends 20th Anniversary – Captain America

  • Background:
    • Under order from President Truman, in order to hide the “deaths” of Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes, Nasland was made into the second Captain America, given Steve’s classic costume.
  • Why do you need it for your collection?
    • While you will probably use this or the other Captain America figures as Rogers, if you wanted to use this as Nasland, you can, especially if you want to create the All-Winners squad.
  • Does it need a remake?
    • No.
