While her brother became a mainstay with their childhood heroes, she wasn’t so lucky. Introduced in Uncanny X-Men Annual #17 (1993) by Scott Lobdell and Jason Pearson, Shard is the younger sister of the X-men member Bishop. She grew up in the same future where the X-men were betrayed by one of their members and the government began capturing and branding mutants. They were eventually recruited by the XSE (Xavier Security Enforcers) in a effort to train mutant and show the world that they could police themselves. They both rose through the ranks with Shard becoming the youngest commanding officer in the history of the organization. However, she was set up by Trevor Fitzroy, her boyfriend, into an ambush with the Emplate, transforming into one of them and having to siphon off mutant energy to survive. Bishop was forced to kill his sister rather then let her live as a monster…….But she would survive somewhat as her essence was transferred to a crystal in Bishop’s bracelet allowing her to live as a hologram so when Bishop went back in time to follow her boyfriend, she went with him.

She would continue to support Bishop as a voice of reasons and another opinion. The bracelet was destroyed in a battle with Mountjoy but was later fixed by Forge. Wild Child would steal the bracelet on Shard’s request and was taken to Bishop and Storm in Las Vegas where it was stolen by Professor Stephens of the Humanity’s Last Stand anti-mutant organization. In a battle to rescue her, Shard destroyed her own bracelet but the resulting explosion resulted in her becoming photon-based lifeform. She would go with Wild Child and joined the X-factor team. When Sabretooth attacked the team, she accidentally merged with Polaris, which also causing Fixx and the XUE to travel to the present from her timeline. They would join the X-factor but she became a victom of Fitzroy once again. Bishop travelled to another future where Fitzroy ruled over it to save. In order to defeat Fitzroy, Shard allowed her brother to absorb all her energy to use against Fitzroy. She would die from this but would reappear in Bishop’s mind from time to time.
