The second to die. Introduced in Avengers: The Initiative #3 (2007) by Dan Slott and Stefano Caselli, Michael is one of three clones of MVP, an initiative recruit and descendant of Abraham Erskine, the creator of the Super-Soldier formula and Captain America. MVP was killed during a training excercise and Baron von Blitzschlag, under orders from Henry Guyrich, created a number of clones of him. While one took MVP’s place, three more were created and given the Iron Spider costume and dubbed the Scarlet Spiders.

Their first mission saw them capturing the Sinister Syndicate with the help of War Machine and Komodo. After they were sent to capture the Vulturions and Spider-man, whose identity was known to the public, Spider-man’s heroics inspired the triplet to reveal their identity as clones of MVP. Van was killed trying to calm another clone of MVP, called KIA, who was driven insane by Armory’s gauntlet.

Because the triplet wore Spider-man’s Iron Spider suit (with an extra waldo), anytime they released that suit, you could use it as one of these brothers. As such, Hasbro would release a version of it as part of their Spider-man Origin line and later re-released it was part of their Spider-man Heroes and Villains line. They would later remake this as part of Spider-man’s 60th Anniversary.

    • After Civil War, Spider-man had given up the Iron Spider suit for his classic and later black suit. This was later remade, upgraded and given to three clones of MVP, who were dubbed the Scarlet Spiders.
