He has been there to the majority of events…. but very few outside the comics know of him. Introduced in Incredible Hulk #1 (1962) by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Rick was a high school dropout that wandered onto a military base on a dare. Unbeknownst to him, this was the testing site for the first Gamma Bomb. Bruce Banner raced out to save him, throwing him into a trench as the bomb went off, bombarding Banner in gamma radiation. That night, Banner transformed into the Hulk and the rest is history. Feeling responsible for creating the Hulk, Rick would travel with Hulk throughout his original journeys. When Loki tricked the Hulk into attacking a train, Rick tried to contact the F4 to help but Loki used his magic to contact Thor, but it also summoned Iron man, Ant-man, and the Wasp. After they discovered the truth and defeated Loki, they formed together to become the Avengers, Earth Mightiest Heroes, with Rick being an honorary member.
Rick would travel with them back to the Avengers Mansion and would stay with them when Hulk left. When Cap was revives, Rick would fall under his wing and would eventually become his sidekick, eventually taking the mantle of Bucky until Cap broke their partnership for his safety. Rick would eventually find the Nega-Bands and by clanking them together, he would switch place with Captain Mar-Vell. This would happen up until Rick managed to free Mar-Vell from the Negative Zone. Rick would get kidnapped by the Kree and brought before the Supreme Intelligence, who used his Destiny Force to end the Skrull/Kree. Near dying, Mar-Vell bonded with Rick to save his friends. They would continue to be bonded up until Mar-Vell’s death from cancers.
He would eventually reunite with the Hulk, and through one of many adventures, he was transformed into his own version of the Hulk. He would eventually meet and married on of Hulk’s former girlfriends, Marlo Chandler. He became paralyze and comatose when Hulk became the Horseman of War and he tried to stop him. The Avengers took him to the Supreme Intelligence who activated his Destiny Force and became embroiled in the Destiny War. At the end of it, Rick was once again near death but this time he bonded with Genis-Vell, Mar-Vell’s son. This went onto for a while until Genis-Vell’s death. When the Red Hulk appeared, it was revealed that Rick had been transformed into A-Bomb. He would remain as this for a while until Doc Green cured him.
He would later become as Hacktavist known as the Whisperer. He would eventually leak SHIELD documents and was arrested. He was forced to work for SHIELD until Hydra Cap. executed him He was later revived by Shadow Base, who transformed him into a version of Abomination. He would later find himself fused with Del Frye until he was cured. He eventually began fading from existence and was rebounded with a revive Genis, with Marlo becoming the new Death. He would eventually be separated from Genis after they destroyed the Nega-Bond. Recently, he was one of many suspects believed to be the new Venom until it was revealed that he was the unbeknownst to even himself, he was in fact the new host of Sleeper.
