Okay, this will get complicated. Introduced in X-Men (Vol. 2) #17 (1993) by Fabian Nicieza and Andy Kubert, the woman that would be named Kwannon was raised by the Hand to be their assassin. However, she would fall in love with a man and became pregnant with a child. This angered the Hand who killed the husband and took the baby away from Kwannon, branding it with a butterfly mark. This made her swear loyalty to the Hand and she became their top ninja. After helping a family of a target, she was tasked to kill, she betrayed her handlers and massacre them. She would later meet and fall in love with Matsu’o Tsurayaba but had to fight him in a trail by combat. She would fall off a cliff, causing her to get brain damaged and fall into a coma.

And this is where it gets weird. Matsu’o found Betsy Braddock body on a beach and with the aid of Spiral, transferred Kwannon’s mind into Betsy body and visa versa. Unaware of this, Matsu’o believed that his lover was revived and manipulated the Mandarin into making her his Lady Madarin. However, Betsy would break free when the X-men rescued her. Returning to the states, Betsy would remain in Kwannon body, but the team would encounter Kwannon in Betsy’s body, who believed she was the real Betsy and tried to convince the X-men that Betsy was really Kwannon. However, they discovered the truth, but Kwannon would reveal that she had contracted the Legacy Virus. She would leave the X-men and went to Matsu’o, who she begged to end her life instead of suffering from the virus.

Much later, Betsy’s original body was resurrected and manipulated by Sapphira Styx. Betsy would return to her original body and unbeknownst to the X-men Kwannon would regain her own body. She would begin working for the Brotherhood but would kill Joseph, who was masquerading as Magneto and would rejoin the X-men. After Betsy took the mantle of Captain Britian, Kwannon would take the mantle of Psylocke and join Havok’s team of Hellions. She would remain with this team and the rest of Mutant kind in Krakoa.
